Approaching 2010 Mazda3 Grand Touring ownership...

BMW 325Ci... not for long...
I'm in the process of shopping a final price for a 2010 Mazda3 Grand Touring (Black Mica w/ Moon/Bose package) in my area. I test drove a car without the moonroof over the weekend and was impressed. It handled similarly to my current BMW coupe... which says a lot.

Quite an exciting time...

Hello.

Best of luck. I'm awaiting a call on a 2010 i Touring from a local dealer to replace the wife's MPV.

CTt3P5, thank you. Best of luck in your wait :)

Welcome! Why are you getting rid of the beemer?

Thanks for the welcome.

The BMW must go since the cost of maintenance has gone up incredibly (including the cost of fuel... premium only). So I needed to find a car that came close to the fun that is driving a BMW (they make cars for drivers, amazing cars). I needed something that was small, yet functional. I tried the Matrix and felt like I was riding around in a refridgerator strapped to skateboard. The handling was loose and I never knew if I was actually on the road. And... the low end was awful.

The Civic never got my attention... and I was left with the Mazda3. I did a bunch of research and a review, as written by a former BMW owner, struck me. He wrote that the feel of the Mazda3 reminded him of his Bimmer. Well, that was enough for me to get out to a dealership and get driving.

The Mazda3 did handle like the BMW... it's not the same, of course, but it is closer to that experience than I've had in ANY other vehicle I've driven that wasn't a BMW. And at a fraction of the overall cost.

Bottom line is that the BMW has a lot of miles on her and is taking up big space in my wallet.

Now I'm going to visit another dealership and see if I can get a better deal. My first visit resulted in a price that was $1K higher than Consumer Reports bottomline price. So we'll see what happens next... but I'm convinced this is the car for me. Lots of car for the cost.

it is for sure a lot of car for the cost. It has many features that rival 30K + plus cars and is a blast to drive. Make sure you stay strong and don't be afraid to get up and walk away. Take some pics when you get it!

Thanks! And sound advice - I'm unafraid to take a walk. :)

Paperwork was signed and I'll be picking up my 2010 Mazda3 Grand Touring 5-door this afternoon. Later this week, it will be off to the tint shop, then pictures.

Well, I drove her home yesterday and into work about an hour ago and I'm quite pleased. Appointment for tint tomorrow. Going on a mini-ride on Saturday.

Question for you folks:

What leather treatments do you use? I've been religiously using Meguiar's Aloe Cleaner/Shampoo with my former BMW and was happy with it. I was considering picking a new batch up for the 3.

I use Lexol leather conditioner but if you were happy with the meguirs then go with that. Just remember that this leather isn't the same quality as your beemers.

And where the heck are the pics?!

I've never heard of Lexol - I'll have to check their stuff out. In terms of the quality of the leather, you're right. The BMW leather was thicker, that's for certain.

Is there anything I should be concerned about regarding the leather on the 3? I imagine Meguiar's is kind enough on leather to not artificially wear the seats.

Pics? Absolutely. I'll have some up tomorrow or Saturday after the windows get their tint done. :)

Awful shot from my iPhone, but you get the idea - 30% window tint on all but front and wind.

A recommendation to anyone, have the front end protection put on the car by a custom shop. Best $900 you'll ever spend. Saves you from peppering from road debris. Had mine done the first weekend I had the car along with the tint. The shop should do their own cuts and make it one piece for the whole front end. Also the headlights and fog lamps.

Enjoy the car!
