Max Boost???

many people on the board have run a lot of boost safely on stock internals w/o blowing a motor. i ran 14psi for over a year on the stock turbo, 505zoom ran 12psi on a gt28rs for years, i think joep or blkzoomzoom ran like 22psi on race gas and was fine. good tune goes a long way.

IIRC, blkzoomzoom went through several blocks.

there is no exact answer because keeping the engine together is a function of too many variables. To name a few... maintenance, style of driving, a/f, timing, type of mods, etc...

At the end of the day, if you have ever held an oem FS-DE rod in your hand, you will wonder why mazda chose fisher price as its supplier.

I remember JdmSam said that with a right tune u can boost good amount. But getting a perfect tune is not easy.

I'm running 10psi with the hiboost kit and a ssafc, finally blew two oil seals though and finally getting the motor built

I've been running 14 psi on a MAM Thumper kit now for almost a year on stock internals (built motor is in the garage tho just in case lol). A good tune, and constantly checking your oil, are key.

haha sorry i didn't mean to miss you. if 14psi on a thumper doesn't show what the stock rods can handle w/ a good tune, i dunno what does.

hmmm maybe it was joep then, its been too long to remember. blkzoomzoom attained some great numbers w/ mostly stock parts as well tho.

IIRC, blkzoomzoom went through several blocks.

I'm surprised to be honest, and would never recommend others do the same without having a spare block as back up. I've already broke a welded msp lsd (using an mfactory one now), and the rods are still holding which totally blew my mind. I will attempting 18-20 psi once I'm ready to go ahead with the motor swap and see how long that last lol.

U running meth Crazycaker? If so that would help out tons aswell!

At the moment I am not running meth. It will be added later with the rebuild that's planned. I've done all my own tuning and as far as AFRs go I'm running 10.5-11 in boost, and 13-13.5 out of boost. Timing is not tuned to be very aggressive at the moment.

Let me correct you.

If do not have the basic intake, exhaust, and intercooler upgrade, do not up your boost. If you do and are tuned do not go over 10 psi or you will be playing russian roulette with your block. This is not a safe limit, it's just what most have run the longest w/o immediate failure. Some have run more on a very good tune, but their driving style also dictates how long it lasts.

Just remember s*** can still happen and be prepared to pay for a built or replacement engine if it breaks. There are too many variables to say what is a safe limit. If you aren't able to pay for a replacement engine it breaks, don't mess with the boost.

Also, a bad tune can blow a built motor just as easily as a stock motor.

14-16 lbs for 5 years!!!!! Stock internals. My afrs are 12-12.5 still running. It's possible you just can't be stupid.
