while we're pickin this car apart, is that pinstripe factory? I know the 03.5's didn't have em, and I don't think I've ever seen one before.

it looks like the BPV is VTA, you should be able to see the CAI's BPV pipe, the shifter is for the 03.5 MSP no the 03, the muffler looks like the round tip racing beat muffler that they replace the cracked oval tip with
the tails look like EDM? or something but they don't look stock

I'm not a fan of that pinstripe, either. I'll have to see if I can have it removed. Do you guys think that this car was painted at some point? Maybe it's a 3.5 but painted? And with the BPV, should I be worried? I know I want to get rid of the manual boost controller, either get a digital one or at least ditch it all together.

I know, lol at the description. I'm not sure what to think of this car, it seems like a good deal but I think I might end up needing the extended warranty after all...
You guys have seriously good eyes! I didn't notice half of these things!
I don't see anything other than that boost controler that makes me wary... it looks pretty solid.. Most of this just makes me wonder what happened it its life that these parts got changed. The knob makes me think it was someone involved in the mazda community, otherwise they wouldn't have known about the change for 03.5. Taillights being wrong tell me the car may have been riced out at one point.. probably not too badly though given the condition of everything else... MBC, CAI and gauge tell me its someone who has at least SOME idea of what the performance capabilities are, but not a "tuner" per se...

I have the EDM ones, they are the stock ones he has.

pin stripe is easy to remove, but if its been there too long, you'll have a line there from fading/oxidation.
as for the BPV, i think its fine... take a look and get a pic from the other side, we'll be able to see for sure. ditch the boost control all together until you have supporting mods for more boost.
03.5 had an added front lip, different spoiler, different seat colors (stitching), as well as a few other minor changes. this is definitely an 03, or someone that worked VERY hard to make it look like one. I'm leaning heavily toward the former.

the Injen has a fitting that comes up to meet the stock BPV location there, doesn't it? you think thats been cut off?
the tails look stock.... non-MSP stockers, as the MSP ones had the pink hue in the clear section.

As for the BPV, I don't see any *good* evidence it's not hooked up. The return hose appears to curve downwards, and it looks like you can see a hint of where it returns to the intake. The injen intake does have an aluminum tube that comes up to meet the BPV, but on my car, it had been cut off and replaced with a U-shaped piece of tubing.... Almost impossible to say for sure without a different angle. And it looks like it's hooked up correctly... I don't remember which way the vac nipple is supposed to face, but the little arrow on the side appears to be pointing from the hotpipe to the recirc hose.

thats not entirely true... once the dif is done, and you have a boost gauge in to monitor the WGA, motor mounts replaced.. then its just a matter of upkeeping the sway bushings.....*deep breath*
damn, these cars are a pain in the ass. gotta love em tho!

that looks like a JoeP manual boost controller... haven't seen one of those in like 5 years. i used to have one myself. they were cheap and worked well, no reason to get rid of it as long as you keep the boost at a moderate level (≤9psi).

racing beat never made any round tipped mufflers... just the bosal "mazdaspeed" branded piece of s*** that dealers sold to everyone else who didn't have an msp or mp3
and they're normal USDM protege tail lights... the EDM or JDMs don't look like that

wasn't the 03 muffler tip round? it didn't look like that, but was round.. MP3 as well if I recall...racing beat never made any round tipped mufflers... just the bosal "mazdaspeed" branded piece of s*** that dealers sold to everyone else who didn't have an msp or mp3

That exhaust tip is too small to be the stock exhaust. It also doesn't have the splitter on the front bumper.

I spot a wire hanging by the gas peddle? Could be some electronic hookup that was done on the quick.

It wouldn't take much to correct the things that may be out of the norm on this car, the bpv routing, manual boost controller, etc. Just make sure that boost is turned down so you don't have to rebuild your engine anytime soon.. and casually ask the people you're getting it from about the amount of boost it has been running.. just to get an idea of how close to the Zoom Zoom Boom club membership you are. IMO the only reason for a boost controller is for upping the boost. (boom01)

HP won't change. if you're worried about hydrolocking, take the CAI pipe off.
