01 Toy MR2 Spyder
Hello all Mazda lovers. i've spend a lot of time here on this site and learned so much and did so much to my protege thanks to this site. but in the end, the speed just wasnt there (i mean, come-on it was a 1.6). so i got to looking at new cars and fell between 3, Miata (2nd Gen), S2000, and MR2 Spyder. right away the S2000 fell out of my price range of under $10,000. so then it was between the Miata adn the MR2. As much as i love mazdas the Miata just didnt have the aggressive look/potential for such (even with the different lip kits) and secondly every time i see a miata its a girl driving it so umm yeah. so once i test drove the MR2 i was in love! its unique - people dont know what it is, ive only seen 2 in miami-ever. so yea i bought it and sold the slotege
FYI dont think i like toyotas or anything. camry's and corrollas are still crap to me lol 3 and 6 FTW. its just the MR2 vs. the Miata the MR2 won

so here's pictures. her names Scarlet ;)

Congrats! I tend to like the older body style better, but still, definitely a fun car. :D

Toyota is anything but a crappy brand. They're one of the best, especially considering today's circumstances with the economy and concerns over gas mileage. .. And, of course, let's not forget the Supra. ;)

ok well i agree they are a great company for what its worth but as far as styling i prefer mazdas (3/6) over camry's and corrollas... IMHO
and who forgo about the supra? now if only they brought that platform back for another run

yes, performance-wise... mazda hands down... but mazda will NEVER beat toyota in terms of quality and reliability... my 93 corolla I bought for $500 had all sorts of problems like no AC, leaking oil, fail emissions, and tranny problems... I fixed them all including a broken timing belt (my fault but exasperated from oil leaks and other worn out parts already).... anyway... I abused the s*** out of this car more than what I will ever imagine to do on a protege... it just won't die! 200k and going! plenty of junk yard trips to it and even hauled lumber... as ugly as that car is (the paint is all messed up and it has dents on every body panel) and as blown as the struts are, I just can't help but love it for how dependable the car has been... its funny how it handles great for what it is compared to the new corollas

my mom's new 07 corolla (to replace her totalled 95) has amazing trim materials and fit and finish compared to the 3 (or even my protege), partly because it's a rare japanese built one... even though the interior is boring, plasticy and very basic compared to the better features the 3 has, it's still better quality

IMHO i feel like styling is a big part of what a car is (atleast for the people in this community) and im pretty sure most of us dotn really wanan go out adn buy ugly cars (hence y almost everyone here owns 1 mazda... or has). dont get me wrong one of my good friends has a '93 with 300,000+ miles on it and it wont die either -- it even makes regular trips between miami and michigan. but honestly outside of the 1st gen boxy style camry, does anyone really like the new camry vs the 3, the corrola vs the 6, the yaris vs the 2... i find it doubt it (im not saying its not possible, jsut not likely). much love to toyota tho since i drive one - but i mean mine is rare and doesnt look like a toyota in reality(squinty)

It's quirky different that's for sure. Enjoy the top down fun. You're located in the right place for it.

look on the bright side... at least most toyotas aren't butt ugly like the domestics or even the new acuras

I actually like the 2nd gen camry the best... also the 93-97 corolla body style is the best hands down... it doesn't look anything special but doesn't look crappy or cheap either like the generation after that... the last generation to get the GOOD engines compared to the coke can engines the newer corollas get... the newer ones also got cheaped out with the bad axle beam suspension too... like I said... mine handles amazing compared to my mom's... both have bad tires, and mine is running on 14s! it handles as good as any protege of the same year although the steering is a lot more sloppy/numb... but its still way more direct than the new corollas which are down right sloppy
