Goodbye MS3 :(

You can't afford the MS3 anymore... but you think you can afford an STi or Evo? Do a search for "evo brakes" some time. In terms of general maintenance, they are more expensive than the MS3.

Don't go jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Go get yourself an insurance quote for those two cars, lol. It's insane what they charge for insurance on those two. Thank you FnF franchise!

If you leave it stock, or closer to stock, then it shouldnt cost you anything besides tires, and oil changes. I have almost 50k on mine with some track time, and I have had 0 problems.

and buying one of the used listed above is like buying a grenade with no pin, it could go anytime. someone who buys one of those buys it for an intention, and you'll just be buying there issues which = more money to fix stuff which = not a cheaper solution.

buy a used SS/TC or Caliber if you want cheap.

My monthly insurance premium is actually cheaper with the MS3 (full coverage) than my old '92 civic with just liability. It's also only 15$ a month more than my old regular Mazda 3. Can't beat that. I would imagine the other cars would be much more expensive.

I got quoted $450/month for an Evo, or STI, when the same coverage for my MSP is less than $100/month.

lol I will most likely not get an evo or sti, I will if its a perfect car that is selling dirt cheap because somebody needs money fast. WRX is pretty much the car I was looking at. Also I hate mazda so much that I would be willing to get a different car.

Also what is your opinion on an s4.

ahh so the truth has come out!!!

S4's are nice, AWD is a kick in the pants, and for the priced of a used one(depending what year) its a worth the money. i dont care for the looks, but if you are looking for an alternative from coming for a speed 3 an s4 might be fun. just keep in the back of your mind the motor is still a Volkswagen, but im pretty sure the drive train they use in them is the quattro, which has a bulletproof rep behind it

my friend has a 2002 S4, it's really nice. They have dual K03 turbos on them. Really strong motors that can handle WAY more power without rebuilds. He broke his engine mount (one of them) and had to get that replaced... that is an engine out job, unfortunatly, on that car.

o and dnt get me wrong when i say its a volkswagen, the motor may be nicely built, but electrical issue's and snobby communities still follow the volks name.

Electrical issues

+1 on electrical issues. His dash has all kinds of lights and gauges out on it... but that can all be fixed.

Before I bought the ms3, I considered a GTI as well as other cars, and found Consumer Reports are a good tool to base reliability and other issues, both positives and negatives about a particular car and during specific years.

Yes, electrical issues were reported enough on VW's to get a poor grading by CR.

CR gave the ms3 very good ratings. (yes)
