Easier car to mod

Okay here is the deal. I currently own a 08 VW R32 and my fiance owns a 2002 Celica GTS. I am going to trade in the Celica and either get a mazdaspeed 3 or a VW GTI. I have driven both and think they are both great cars. I am leaning more towards the MS3 due to the extra HP and because I already have an R32.

I was wondering what car is responds to mods better the MS3 or the GTI? I want to make around 300-330 WHP and will be using the car daily.

Also does the MS3 really have as many turbo issues as I have been reading about? I have read mostly about smoking turbos and blown engines!(confused)

Thank you in advance for your help with this

For dailys, both cars are fine as is. Hell, mine isn't even a daily and I have no inclination to go beyond an intake.

Kain,

Thank you for your response! I really enjoy the idea of being able to mod my car which will be a huge deciding factor for me. Based on what I have read it seems some MS3's respond good to mods and others have major problems. I can see why you would be apprehensive about adding an intake.

It's not that I'm apprehensive, it's just that I no longer mod for the sake of modding. I add a mod, see if it improves the car any, then step back and really ask myself if it's worth doing another mod. It keeps me in check and makes me less antsy to just drop cash on something that, in the end, doesn't amount to a hill o' beans.

Wow; end of an era -- no more up to 11 and now we have XX; stay thirsty indeed.

Nigel is on sabbatical is all.

edited by mods to withhold incriminating terrible install of dryer vent intake :) ;)

Strick,

LMAO!!! That is priceless! Excellent find! Next time you are in the Sarasota area beers are on me!
Sounds good man. I actually live in riverview. Which is like 30 minutes or so from there. Good luck with your decision in cars. I vote for the MS3 > GTI.

holy modfest, this thread changes every time I hit enter....LMAO.

Now my above post doesnt make sense......lol

My DV intake is a classic and I think it should be up on the header at the top of this board.

Hilariously, my AEM doesn't work any better than that did. That should tell you all you need to know about intakes on these cars.

Now, I was a bit harsh with the OP in my deleted post but, I don't feel any different in retrospect. Trying to combine DD utility and close to 400 flywheel horse is a recipe for colossal fail both financially and automotively.

Chuck on top of that this chassis, (or the VW's) can't put even the stock power levels to the ground without histrionics and you have to ask, what the hell are you doing this for?

A few choice mods, getting on to ~300 flywheel horse, will make the MS3 even more a blast and park that VW's wimpy ass for low $$$. That will allow you to use the stock hard parts and, probably, avoid major drama in the engine bay.
