Hehehe. that's funny.

Yeah, there's tax that goes with the vehicle, title and regestration so it can be legal for road use.

So; All of this has to be paid the day I buy the car? Anyone want to give me a ball park of how much I should have banked up before I try getting a car?

If you need a car, buy one now. If not, wait.

I don't NEED the car necessarily.. in all honesty I could just go another YEAR without one... however having a car would be nice so I can leave my apartment and go shopping for food or go to the post office or even come up from DeKalb to Grayslake area to visit the Mazdateam + Joel...

It's just slowly becoming more of a pain in the butt than anything... having to always rely on other people or the local bus that takes FOREVER...

Bike + bag (shoulder, backpack, pannier, etc.) is the most affordable way to go, it is possible to get by using this and public transportation. It may not be as nice as having your own car, but it's less costly, more effiecient, good for you and it reduces your carbon footprint (lol @ that). Do without a car for a year, you'll be better off for it.

they typically roll this into the final number and it becomes part of the payment

I do have a bike/bag. This is what I've been doing for SO damn long. I just don't know if I really can keep it up much longer... Plus--the small strain it will start to take on Joel and I once it becomes winter will not be a good thing...

Do they really? That's nice. That means I REALLY don't need to have any money to buy a car... cause I think Joel said that usually they give you the first month off?

Yeah if I were getting a used car, I would flush out all the fluids including oil and tranny fluid and replace them with good synthetic variants.

That's because you typically give them a decent downpayment.

Other typical costs:

Oil change
Car washes
Gas
Santos

lol @ the Santos part ;D

I would be giving them a nice down payment.. If I got a car now it would be whatever the dealer would give me for my bad car... assuming I wait till the Fall; it will be about 2K down payment + whatever the dealer gave me for the car.

Agreed. I would need someone to help me drain all the fluids and stuff... OYE! It's looking like I better just wait till September before I get a car xD

My honest opinon is to agree with Phil, getting a car just so you can visit joel and company and have a car at the meets, etc. is kinda stupid. I hardley see Chris and I live with her(we eat dinner and go to bed) and I love handing with Mazdateam bit driving an hour and a half is time and money I don't have plus the live in the same area, they don't come here every weekend do they?(no offence people I don't blame you) So if you can make do with what you have do it and next you'll have maore money for a down payment and can get a nicer car or have a lower payment. And if Joel can't deal with having to driving to see you kick his ass to the curb

lol @ the dump Joel comments.

In reality, I do agree with the others - if this is going to put you to a VERY close financial strain, it's not worth it. Unforeseen expenses will arise and then you are screwed.
