I have roughly 2,500 miles on my speed and 2.5 months of driving. I think I am going to get a synthetic oil change asap. It just feels like the car needs it.

I was thinking about it and the dealer had my car in their dealer garage whatever since mid 2008 through the winter until April when I bought it. that is a long time for a vehicle to sit. oil is probably defunct by now. is that technically possible?.?.

I'm not sure but I talked to my dealership and they said that your first oil changed should be at 5k then every 3k after that to be safe.

While I dont think the oil in it would be defunct by now I'd say switch to synthetic now anyway. I switched mine at about 2000 miles. Synthetic will handle the heat of the engine/turbo better than regular oil.

i would say change it now. you want to get rid of little engine chunks from the break in period. i did my 1st free oil change around 1500 miles at the dealer and switched to full synthetic oil at 4500.

2500 miles in 2.5 months? you need to drive more. :P

Lotsa threads on this. I changed mine at 1K, 3K, 4.5K and 8.5K. That's when I switched to synthetic.

:) Mine is at just over 11K in 14 months.

Switch her now... I switched to Penzoil Platinum at 3k. Do 5w-40 full synthetic.

BTW I have less than 6k miles in just under 9 months. 5890 to be exact in 8 months 25 days.

Yeah, no matter what your intention is as far as "regular" oil change intervals down the line, it's an excellent idea to get the break-in oil out of there ASAP, as it will contain lots of little metal shavings & such from the break-in process.

After that, follow a schedule that makes you feel confident in the car, but at least as often as the owner's manual suggests. And from what I've read here, save the receipts so you can prove you weren't neglecting the car if the engine goes boom. lol

this weekend is going to be great for my speed3,,,,,,, just made an appt for saturday to get synthetic oil change, and then on sunday my buddy is going to walk me through installing my injen cai. fun

Fixed. (2thumbs)
True enough -- I had a friend who bought a '79 Buick Regal Turbo. The manual didn't mention the oil should be changed WAY more often (at the time) than "normal". The turbo died fairly early. The dealer wanted something like $800 to replace it, due to "improper maintenance". He'd had the oil changed by the book at the dealer and told 'em "Don't think so..."

It took a struggle, but they replaced the turbo at no charge. His next car was a Mercedes 300SD...

I just changed my oil @ 1700 miles Yes the oil looked dark and dirty. Went with regular Dino oil and 3 k miles from now I will switch to full synthic. I really don't know if there is a break in oil or one with a additive that comes from the factory during break in periods. I just think that the oil supplied will get more contaminated as metal parts start to seat and wear to mated surfaces.. NOTE:: I noticed my filter seemed to have been twisted the pleates are not vertical as the new filter the are distorted and bowed along the sides
