so any ideas lol or should i just pay the 4 grand to get a mech to look at it haha . i pulled the plugs and they look fine its not burning oil and it seems to have roughly the same compression... the sound seems to be coming from the 4th cylinder... rod?

any way you can take a video of the noise? Rod knock is pretty easily discernible, however I'd be very surprised for an N/A, Auto P5 that doesn't get seriously ragged on to ever do that unless it was run low on oil...

Does it do it all the time, just at idle, just at cruise, just on accel or decel?

I cleaned the thread up. What say we try to keep this on topic and get this guy back on the road, ok kids? ;)

so i checked the plugs its al;l good. doesnt burn oil or anything just a loud bang... i think its a rod bearing does that mean new motor. the second it made the noise i shut it off.... any ideas

When you say "it seems to have roughly the same compression..." does that mean you did a compression test? Loud knock or tick? Is the sound coming from the upper part or lower part of the motor? Just trying to eliminate various parts that could be causing the issue here for ya. Sorry for the twenty questions.

no i just put my hand over the empty spark plug hole and they all felt the same when i cranked it over... it seems to be coming from the passenger side i beilieve rthe 4th piston... its right by the timing belt

If it's by the timing belt, that'd be #1 piston. Drive it til it blows or start taking stuff apart until you find it or just take it somewhere & have someone tell you what it is. It will not fix itself or just go away. From the description, it sounds terminal. Spark plugs or wires won't fix it & doesn't sound like VICS screws.

i no it wont fo away lol but how much would a race- type engine be for this car like my buddy has an 89 prelude with a aftermarket 4 cyl and a chip ( no turbo) and it eats srt 4s for breakfast... i want somethin like that outta my mazda

A 'race-type' engine. Lol.

Unless you have extremely deep pockets, you will be putting the same FS-DE motor into your P5 that you have in there right now. There isn't much available in terms of engine swaps. If you have slightly deep pockets, you can easily buy a built FS-DE motor (forged rods, pistons, etc.) from a vendor like SpeedCircuit for $3000-4000 dollars.
