Star Wars Vs. Star Trek

I like Star Wars.
I just don't dig those space ship and costume design in Trek.
The Enterprise (or other ships) all looks like some inverted metal-detectors, the smaller transport ship (forgot its name) cockpit have only front window but no side windows, the costumes all likes those pajamas I wear to sleep when I was a little kid, and finally, the weapons look like those tiny water-pistol for kids.

And the biggest turn-off is, when watching the TV versions, no matter which space ship or transport ship the scene is, they all look like some dudes sitting inside a room but not inside a spaceship. Have to blame the budget on set-design I guess.

Sorry... got you beat here!!! Ha ha!

I am surprised these weren't posted yet:

Saw it this afternoon! .. While I was semi-lost on some parts just because I never watched much of the original 'Star Trek' with Kirk and Spock, I still enjoyed it. There were, of course, some parts that didn't make sense -- but go figure, not everything in sci-fi is gonna line up perfectly.

IMAX is definitely the way to go.

I honestly never saw any of the other movies or the Kirk era episodes either, I was a Next Generation & Voyager fan. So I'll probably have the same problem. Well, I found someone to go with... my boss at work, ha ha, but it might be awkward so I haven't decided wheter to go with him or not.

(boom01) (lol2), true

Watched tonight with wife, with some of the common cheesy stuff, but (thumb) overall. Yes, same thing, I never watched the very first shows but wife has the collection so she did explain a couple of things afterwards, makes it more fun to know (i.e. did you know that always the dude in red dies?, let you check if you watch it :))

A red uniform is for command positions. Captain, Commander, Admiral, General, and so one.

Not in the original series - it was always a given that the guy in a red uniform was going to die in that episode (though not always the case - eg early Scotty). The convention you are talking about wasn't adopted until TNG and the movies. In the original series I believe yellow uniforms were officers/command, blue were medical/science and red was everything else. The first season was confusing though because I think there was also green. The original pilot had completely different unforms altogether.

I was thinking the movies and TNG and on. Kirk wore yellow shirt in the orginal TV series.

There is a funny episode of DS9 where they go back in time and interact with the original Enterprise crew from The Trouble with Tribbles. It is called Trials and Tribbleations, although I`m sure I messed up the spelling. The male characters are standing around in the corridor talking about how, in the old days, Command wore one color, Medical wore a different color, etc, and Dax comes out of her room wearing the miniskirt from the original show and says, "and women wore a lot less."

was a great episode, one they released to coincide with the 35th anniversary of trek. voyager had an episode that same week with captain sulu and a flash back to the ST6 events. hated voyager but as episodes came it wasn't bad. always a plus to see the old guys suit up "one more time".

most people know here i'm a die hard trekkie. i have a DVD shelf dedicated to the three seasons of the original, seven seasons of next generation, seven of deep space nine and the movies from 1 to nemesis. there is alot i could say about the new film, but i'll keep a good bit of that to myself and merely say i enjoyed it for what it was and acknowledge there is no going back.

as for the whole "trek VS wars" bit? i'm going to cop out and say they aren't worth comparing because they're completely different in terms of scope and purpose.

for those of you geeks who can't resolve that, this is a good read - http://movies.ign.com/articles/982/982293p1.html

Saw movie at the IMAX and it was great. To think this franchise has been around for close to 40s years.

movie was amazing! Back on topic though:

I'm saying star wars (when I say star wars I don't even count the most recent three) just because the story, universe, and overall atmosphere were just so....epic! This is mainly because they were all movies and as such were supposed to be so, well, epic. Also, star wars seemed to do what star trek has done this time around. They reached to a wide audience and had something everyone could enjoy. The appeal was to the nerd elite and the casual movie goer equaly, not favoring one or the other. Star Trek just didn't seem to master that quality until this most recent film.

As a series though, I really respect star trek and how diverse/long lasting it's been. You have to start with a big chunk of quality to get that many spin offs and still have decent TV.

I haven't seen the new Trek movie yet (going to watch it a bit later).
But I like this movie better than any previous Trek movies:

Star Trek Just cause of the new movie made it better, the new star wars movies... I hate them....

Saw it today with my wife and stepson. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Even with explaining most of the "insider" lines to my stepson, "I would quote regulations but I feel you would disregard them anyway", it was still fun. I kind of want to go back and see it again by myself so I can just watch it. There were some small changes that they got away with because you could attribute the differences to the ripple effect from the changes in the timeline, but I rather preferred the original. The Kobayashi Maru solution that Kirk came up with in the books was even more amusing than the movie, which was pretty good.

I loved that movie. Sigourney Weaver and the "Chompers" was frickin hilarious.
and Guy: "I`m going to die, I know it. I`m the expendable extra who never comes comes back from the planet!"
Tony Shaloub: "No, no, maybe you`re the plucky comic relief."

As seen in Jalopnik, (cool)

The new Star Trek flick just came out. While nobody we know will admit to seeing it, the reviews sound pretty good. That said, the most famous Trekkie soundbite will always be the anti-Montalban "KHAAAAN!"

We ran the numbers and there's about a 3% chance this is actually William Shatner's Prius, though it's much more likely the ward of a comic book guy-like gentleman who wears latex Spok ears to his IT admin job. In case you aren't familiar with the source material this license plate is referencing, we've included the famous clip, from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Live long and prosper.
