CulRidr's MP3 N/A build (~150whp goal)

Work started yesterday, and it should be all finished up today...will let you guys know what I think. Should be a big upgrade, especially since my car has been kinda laggy recently; found out why yesterday when I saw the old cat out; partially destroyed (which completely explained the CELs I had gotten...)

Teaser pic of the header in the car. Not sure what to think of the performance yet; the throttle response has lessened, but it feels as though the car is more torquey...I need to add some fuel to the mix because the car is running rather lean right now, not helping things I'm sure. haven't redlined it yet to feel if the powerband has gone up, mostly because I was running lean and didn't want the thing to explode before the rebuild happened...

Never measured it (should have), but it would only be off by a few inches...if you look at the previous page, a few inches considering the total length is pretty good :)

Lots more pictures coming tonight of most of the parts going into the car, but here is the last picture taken of the car before she gets ripped apart starting tomorrow...

Here are some pix of all the parts which have been gathering in the basement:

Transmission stuff; new stock clutch, Fidanza 7.5lb flywheel, replacement 5th gear (missing a welded MSP LSD [Rev3], which will be shipped to me this week)

While you're in your trans, you should upgrade to the newer shift forks, and don't forget to get the MSP clutch fork and fork pin to handle that beefier pressure plate. The revised synchros would be a good idea too.

You'd think someone could have said that BEFORE I made my order to MSM a month ago...(spank)
Can the stock forks not handle the MSP clutch?
Part #s so I can look up a price?
Synchros are probably out of the question budget wise...

*sob*

I miss my twiggys
They'll be put to good use :)

I don't know if I've ever seen cam journals that bad?! Did you buy it from speedcircuit, or second hand?

The part numbers are i nthe FAQ. The synchros are ~$15 each IIRC, and yes, I would definitly get the clutch fork. It's MUCH beefier. The shift forks were revised in '03 as well for good reason, do it right so you don't have to tear it apart again! :p

Second hand...trying to figure out if I can get my money back from the guy or not (depending on what my machine shop says). For 15$, synchros are a good price (how many synchros are there?). If everything is under 150-200$ or so, I'll do it.

stock clutch fork will put up with a fairly beefcake clutch.... we all run non-msp clutch forks over here, with 2400lbs clamping pressure clutches....and don't have a problem.

And the engine is out of the car...pix pending! :):)

Edit: The car now has ZERO horsepower!!

because of the weight loss there is a strong possibility that the car is in fact faster....(lol2)

So I found the parts for the MSP clutch fork/fork pin, but not the shift fork (is that really necessary?). And at ~100$ a pop, unless my synchros are done, I'm not touching them, especially since that would add a lot of labour in terms of taking out the gears and whatnot, essentially making this a full transmission rebuild as opposed to just an upgrade...something I'm not really sure is necessary. If the dealership/tranny shop say otherwise, then we'll see.

Engine is out to get machined...

This is what happens to your suspension when it doesn't have an engine to weigh it down...
