Just curious, does anyone have a decibal meter or some sound measuring device to claim what is "loud" or "quite quiet"? I know that the iphones have an application (sorry it has to be jailbroken) that has a decibal meter and can read up to 180. If someone can get a reading of their cabin and list what item they have installed, then I think it will be a better reference than subjective opinion? I'm wanting to do the header and exhaust, but if I can't hear my thoughts when I drive I'm going to hit someone.

^^^ If you think it's going to be too loud then it's going to be too loud for you. Don't bother with an exhaust if you can't accept the noise. I say "noise" because that is what you are going to get with a header and an exhaust.

damn, that probably isnt too good for the engine then. theres an srt4 that passes the store i work at everyday as im taking in the displays outside, and it has it. sounds so cool

my miata has a cat and it burbles and pops all the time. It does it w/ the stock ecu and when we had a rough tune on the megasquirt. They, like the protege, just run rich.

Then again, this is my cat and cat-back... so it helps. There's about zero restriction in the muffler

2nd that. I drove my 1990 RX-7 with test pipe for a couple months (& open header for a couple weeks haha I was a dumb kid) and that was just ridiculous, I could back fire it on request...
