...what's the project you're going to be doing?

for my first project, i would like to lower it 2-2.5" then throw a bodykit on it...if you have any recommendations on what way to go, feel free to advise...

A couple of suggestions.

1. Don't put a body kit on it. The only body kit that looks even remotely good on the P5 is the accolade body kit so if you can afford that and you really want one, then go ahead. Buy a lip instead. A DG lip will allow you to keep your fogs but if you like the mazdaspeed protege lip, you can install that by removing your fogs.

2. When lowering, search around on the site and see how much each spring set drops your car. That being said, you can lower the car on just springs but it is a very wise choice to get struts as well. I spent a couple months on my stock struts before they were blown and I was bouncing around like I was driving a buick. You can also get yourself some coilovers which give you great adjustability on the drop as well as the stiffness if you buy more expensive ones. If you don't need any performance, you can even bag it. Only a few ppl on the forums have gone this route since the car is mostly about its suspension.

A couple of suggestions. Don't put altezzas on the car, don't put a fartcan on the car, don't put bad graphics on the car etc etc.

Good luck and welcome to the familia :D

fishdonotbounce,

thanks for the suggestions...i will do my research on lowering, i know this might sound dumb, but what the hell is a lip? for my exterior projects, i will just paint the car, but big on graphics though...

No biggie. A lip is basically a front spoiler if you wanna call it that. It's an addon for the bumper. In my signature you can see mine a little bit. I didn't get that last sentence though. DId you mean to say you're not too big on graphics or that you are? either way, whatever you do, try to keep it clean and simple but original. There are a few guys on the forum here that have done a two tone on the P5 and it has looked great but there are many ways to go wrong with paint. Let me know if you have any questions and if I can't answer them, I know who would be able to.

oh ok, for the last statement, i was saying that i wasnt that big on graphics, but the 2 tone does appeal to me though, i am thinking about going with orange and black, with a hint of yellow...i saw your P5 and it is a very clean ride...i noticed yellow lens on the fog lights...is that a custom add on? and why not the altezza lights, but i would love love have the angel eyes projector lights but i am having a hard time finding them...man, puttin a fartcan or one of those type of mufflers isnt even a consideration, i like the quiet ride with nice performance, hot ass exterior, and a very clean interior with 3 JL 10W6 with 2 amps...

Thanks for the comment. The reason I said not to get altezzas is because in my honest opinion (as well as many other people's) the clear and the black ones both look worse than stock. A very clean and good looking option for the taillights is the JDM tailights. They are the taillights off of the Japanese (as well as a couple other countries') protege5 which is the familia over there. The yellow foglights are just vinyl overlays that a forum member named bluebatmobile has been making for years. Very cheap mod and it protects your fogs from cracking due to rocks or any other stuff. For your headlights, you can find a how-to in the how-to section that will show you how to black out the bezels in there. Check the rest of the how-to section for a bunch of great little things you can do for very little money. As far as the projector angle eyes, no company makes them for our cars. There have been a few members that have made projector headlights by retrofitting them but the project costs around 500-700 dollars if I recall correctly.

i have a question for anyone that would like to answer...what are your recommendations as to where to start. the exterior, engine bay, or the suspension? i dont want to start on something and end up having to rework cause it will impact the next project. also, i am trying to keep the performance at a level where it doesnt impact the MPG that much, but noticeable performance upgrades...any suggestions as where to start? thanks all...

you can turbo your car, and it won't effect mpg unless you get into it a lot..
i would start on suspension. there's tons of parts readily available.

okay, so for the rest of us that are new as well. how exactly do you get into suspension. cuz i just wanna keep the stocks, and if i do get new rims, i'll just get the same specs as the stocks so i dont have to dick with it too much. anyway, where is a good p[lace to go for Suspension products. Also, will a turbo for a Protege fit a P5?

yeah man, those JDMs look nice. you gonna get the chrome ones or the blacked out ones for the silver car?

Thats cool man. I'm trying to go ahead and find some halos for the front, but i haven't managed to find any. all i need to do is pick up those, some eyelids, and some good lowering springs, and im gonna be done with her

nutting wrong with that...i am having the hardest time in finding some tight ass rims...all the rims i like have the 42mm offset. and based on what rishie said, they will barely make or wont fit. i want to lower it, put either a CAI or RAM intake, remove the rack, paint it, and probably that is it
