03.5 MazdaSpeed Protege
Hey guys. i have an 03.5 mazdaspeed protege with bad wheel bearings i just wanted to know if anyone knows anyone who can repair it or if they can rent me the tools to do it myself....please i need this done asap..let me know thanks for all the help!!!

I had mine done by Charlottesville tire on Main street and I think I paid ~400 for both of the front ones. The guys there are really nice and besides, you can see me parked in their lot (I work next door).

too much money.

pull off the knuckles yourself. take them to a machine shop, have them press out the old ones, and press in the new ones..

get the new bearings at advance auto, or napa or w/e. MUCH cheaper.

I agree but sometimes it is worth it for the convienience...

.. taking it to a dealer/shop you'll probably spend at LEAST 150.00 more than doing it yourself..

that's not convenience for me...

As long as my total $$ outlayed is close to my "real cost" doing it myself, I'll pay (unless I'm bored). Obviously, as wages increase, the cost/benefit analysis will always lean you toward having someone else do the work. That's why most people who have alot of money have the work done for them.

In my situation, say it would probably take me all day by myself (at least 8 hours) for the research on how-to, teardown, finding the shop to press the bearings, travelling there, having it done, and going home, rebuild, $100 for the parts...I'd rather have this done by someone else. Someone at a lower wage would definetly want to do it theirself though.

Keep in mind that I have done and will continue to do my Brakes, Suspension, oilchanges, washing/waxing, etc. because they are relatively easy and you are always WAY overcharged for them. Sometimes it comes down to principle. To each their own though.
