Mazdaspeed3 Rattling....HELP!!!

Hello,

I took my speed 3 out for a drive last night and a little while after driving it a strange rattling noise started coming from the front of the car. I looked under the hood and underneath the car I have been unable to locate anything loose on the car. It only makes the noise if I am getting on the car so it is under a heavy load. If I just rev up the car it does not make the noise. Also there is no noticiable lose of power or difference in the car running it seems absolutely fine. The only other thing that has developed since this rattling is it has a bit rougher idle than normal. After idling for a while it will kind of shutter and shake the car. I am pretty much clueless on this one so any tips or advice on this problem would be greatly appreciated. I plan on checking the engine mounts as soon as i can incase one of them is loose and causing the rattling. The mods I have on my car are, cobb sri, turbo xs bpv, step colder plugs, turbo xs sbe, cobb ap. running stage 2+ right now. Everything i have checked on the Cobb Ap while driving it has been within normal limits. So if you guys can offer any help here i would greately appreciate it. I am not sure if the engine is knocking or not, i have neve rheard it before and not sure what it would sound like and if it would effect performance. This started afte i burned a quarter tank of gas from my last fill up. So im not sure if I got some bad gas or not, but i put 94 octane in it. Thanks in advance for you advice and help.

I know an upgraded motor mount increases vibrations. The stock one may be coming loose if you haven't put in a new one. Could be causing the shutter but I'm not sure about the rattle. Mine rattles when its cold if that helps.

Ya but this worries me, my windshield has always rattled when it is cold, but this is a metalic rattle that can be heard from outside the car, and its very loud. perhaps I got bad gas and its spark knocking ? firing while the piston is still traveling up ? I hear that this would cause a similar sounding rattle.

i believe there is either a recall or a tsb for a "cowl creak". my buddies ms3 was rattling and it turns out its the cowl..might wanna check it out

Its not the cowl issue, this rattling sounds like its coming from the engine.

Throwout bearing on this car is a tad noisy but you would have noticed that a long time ago I would think.

throw out bearing isnt only noisy but it does make a metallic noise like metal being churned around something else metal....like a bearing thats just not right. its actually "normal". i brought my to the top speed tech in the country and he said the throwout bearings are crazy loud and the rx-8s are even worse. its normal to hear them make some funny noises just when the thing makes nasty noise you should worry. try pushing in the clutch and letting it go and listen. if its that noise...plus a little metal noise occasionally...thats your "rattle" other than that maybe you should go get it checked for assurance. good luck.

I get rattle from engine bay too...
get it every now and then...not sure what it is yet.

yes I know. I have a similar rattling problem every time I pull into my driveway (steep) and I get the slightest noise. I dont think its a major concern, it happens to a fair amount of members that I have talked to. Someone said that It involved the heat shield above the turbo/manifold having a slightly loose bolt.

very interesting..since I get it sometimes on idle as well..on a slope driveway.
I'll check the heatshield bolt ..thanks

also, i dont tend to get it on idle, just as im going up the driveway, and occasionally on flat, but my car is a tad too loud to be able to hear it when moving and such
