OE radio question

Before I go to pulling it out to see, maybe someone can shed some light for me. Are there any other inputs on it? Meaning RCA...I'm going to guess no, but it's worth asking. I'm curious about using the AUX port and making my own Ipod cable so the wife can listen to it while she drives. She has no desire to change the headunit, and I can't justify $100 for a cable I can make. Any info?

Check out the auxmod board from sylfex.com. Basic one is 60.00. It plugs into the tape module port on the bottom of the radio & doubleside tapes itself in place. You then get a male male 3.5mm cable & plug it into the board & run it out to the glovebox or down to the cubbyhole under the ashtray. The ipod will have to be controlled from itself & it is audio only-no charging. But it works like a champ & is reasonably priced & you get to listen to the ipod or any other mp3 player. Saw one in FS section the other day, not sure if it's gone or not.

Before you spend 60.00 on a cable for a crappy radio, check out Crutchfield.com for sales on head units. I just got a Clarion unit with front USB and mini-jack inputs for 79.99. Sounds amazing and 200 songs on a thumb drive means no more CD's. Ipods work too. This thing has 20 watts per channel also, vs. maybe 5 watts for the stock radio.

raserx beat me to it. i just installed a usb head unit into my lil bros car. you can even get a head unit with the auxiliary port in the front(usb is preferred since it charges the ipod and no loss of audio ie: noise or bass/sound reduction, etc). i need to upgrade my headunit to a usb. for around 100 bucks its worth it

This makes me wanna go get one & use my MSP pocket that's just collecting dust in the garage, lol. Nice. I would do this over just the auxmod board if I didn't already have it.

Looks like I'm going to fab up a cable that will use the AUX port.
I tend to believe this would burn up more than 80.oo of your free time. I vote for the clarion or the auxmod if not upgrading the whole system.

I'm a swtichgear tech by trade(electrician on a different level) so this is easy work for me, and the main reason I can't justify 50cents of material and about 10 minutes of my time to make the cable.
