TRZ Tranny Mount Discussion (no bashing)

Ok, (peep) as long as its safe.

So this thread is not to compare mount X to mount Y. All I would like is to start a discussion about the TRZ Tranny mount and get peoples opinions and feedback on it. Its pretty sad that the other thread got to the point where it had to be closed. Unlike others, I was using it as a source for answers and information. Also, I still want a source to ask questions and get some feedback on the tranny mount that i recently installed.

As I already stated, I love what the mount has done to the driveline, as far as solidifying everything up. Switching gears is amazing, engine response is almost instant and wheel hop has been greatly reduced.

My concern/annoyance (and I realize why, poly vs. rubber, reduced movement=increase NVH, yeah I get it) is that the car now sounds and feels like it has a dogbox. Heres my list of new sounds and sensations:

I can hear and feel the gears "clicking" into place.

The LSD whine is ridiculous.

I can hear the synchros as I enter most gears.

When engaging the clutch to slow down from 1st or 2nd gear there is a horrendous "clunk".

The throwout bearing while in neutral sound like a jar full of marbles shaking in front of a megaphone!

I can handle a little extra NVH as trade off for performance, ie rear motor mount but this seems excessive. If all sounds normal to those who have run the mount for a while, please let let me know.

In the next day or so I want to record what I'm experiencing and post it so you guys can have a listen and tell me whether its normal or excessive.

The people who try to sell the product think that's totally acceptable. Anyone in their right mind who wants a somewhat civil DD will not like it.

I had the TRZ and now the Medieval.
TRZ is well made, I don't care what anyone says. It was a quality piece.
The TRZ had more vibrations than the Medieval. The transmission, throwout bearing and all the other noises are about the same. Those noises are there and the stock mount has a dampener on it to kill them. Since the performance ones do not, you can expect to hear the noises. I do not think the noise is bad at all. Most of the time my GF talks my ear off or the radio is playing. It is a trade off.

I've had the transmission mount on since later January and it was really loud at first, it sounded like my car was supercharged in the first three gears. The extra noise has calmed down considerably but it is still there.

The only thing that bothers me about it is when I'm in neutral and let the clutch out because the throwout bearing sounds like a dry clutch on a motorcycle, but like taylorex said, the stereo or a chatty lady drown it out most of the time.

I think it's a great mod, everything's alot firmer and feels more connected, worth the extra noise by far.

Yeah, people who understand how driveline mods work and do what they do all seem to underatand. As you all seem to. The sounds are there no matter what with a good solid mount. I have had the TRZ trans mount since.... Well i had the very first one. It makes a huge difference. I would have to say of all my mods it ranks #2 after a catless dp. And lets face it without a good trans mount engines fall out.... Very often. Noise IMO is a small price to pay.

I'm there with you as far as the performance gains and dealing with some added noise. My complaint is when changing gears, engaging and releasing the clutch. The synchros are very noisy (normal with mount I presume) but I can feel and hear them speed up and and at about 85% throw the resistance grows and the the gear selector clicks into place. The click is both noticeable by feel and sound. I can even hear it when coming out of a gear.

Additionally, and this might be just that its more noticeable now, but when engaging the clutch to come of gear there is a significant clunk felt in the clutch pedal and audibly noticeable. To me it feels like a high mileage transmission that has some slop/play in the driveline. Again, I'm not sure if its just normal movement that is now intensified because of the mount.

Anyway, I shot a little vid last night that sort of shows what I'm experiencing. I'm waiting for the video to process and when it does I'll post it up. Hopefully its worth looking at and you guys can either ease my mind or confirm my suspicions.

I realized this may be important, I'm running Redline MT90, which I changed at the same time I did the mount. I'm wondering if switching to a different weight would help, possibly going heavier?

EDIT: Added video. The last 30 seconds or so is the best example.

+1 a bunch of times..

I have both TRZ mounts, I've never tried any of the others so I can't compare. They add noise & vibration fur sure, that's the trade off for the stiffness, but I've gotten used to it.

I got my TRZ motor mount months ago from a member who was returning to stock. I've been waiting for a little bit warmer weather to put it in but I'm really excited about it. I've heard nothing but good things about this mount from the guy I bought it from and everyone else

All the noises, vibrations, clunks, and feelings mentioned are normal. Its not that the car just starte doing these things. Its been like that since day one. It just gets masked by the squishy rubber mounts.
