just curious... whats your next car?

Wanted? I still do! Just don't want it to fall apart like most BMW's do.

That hasn't been my experience, but then I maintain my Bimmers by the book. I've owned my 318ti since new and at 114,000 miles the only non-scheduled repairs have been a brake light switch, the engine accessory drive belts(along with two idler pulleys), a thermostat, and one set of pads and rotors. My wife's 75,000 mile X3 had the passenger SRS sensor mat replaced under warranty and it recieved a full set of pads and rotors at 60,000 miles- and that's all it has required aside from engine oil, ATF, and TC fluid changes. Either one has a much better reliability record than my 31,000 mile MS3, sad to say.

yeah, maintenance on an M5 would be.......expensive. But man I love those things. I like them even better than the new ones. Less tech, more drive! A pontiac G8 GXP has sort of replaced it as the object of my affections.

That's what I like about the 540i- you get 90% of the performance of the E39M5 without the associated higher running costs. That said, my all-time favorite M5 is the original E28. I love the sound that S38 DOHC six makes. I still kick myself for selling my 1988 M6...(bang)
The G8 is a screaming deal. I've seen GM Certified GTs with around 10,000 miles selling in the low $20K range in the Louisville area. If only you could get a manual in the GT...

I replaced my e60 M5 with my current MS3...The MS3 is a much better car...

The E60 doesn't do much for me either. I drove an Alpina B7 for a couple of weeks and if I was in the market for a big, fast sedan that's what I'd get. It was simply a blast- on the street or on the track:

I have an 05 Tacoma trd sport 4dr 6spd (manual only came with short bed) and some step rails and leer cover. No regrets!!!!
That's exactly why I want to get rid of my regret box and get what I should have gotten in the first place...a Taco!!!

Maintenance aside, they are some of the fastest and nicest Bimmers or even cars ever. All I want is a simple nav system, a great stereo, nice amenities, and an in-your-face-up-your-ass-beat-them-hoes V8.

The 318ti is old school BMW which is when they were good on their reliability and maintenance but the X3 surprises me. Although both of those probably have better maintenance than my MZ3...which is f**ked up but no Mazda will fix it.

Perhaps you don't know how to take care of your MS3 or you just got a bad apple which is most likely the case I bet. Your experience with bimmers is just that, your experience. It's not the gospel truth just because you say so. Bimmers have had their fair share of reliability issues and they are in fact a bit more expensive to maintain vs. the avg car and this is something the consumer needs to be aware of.

what's with the last part?

Try reading for comprehension next time; I never said all BMW's were problem free, I was talking about my experience. That said, I've only owned nine over the past 25 years, so I'm sure your experience with BMWs is much more extensive than mine.
On the other hand, I have problems with my MS3 but that's either my fault or the car is a rare "bad apple". Makes sense to me; I guess it's only the gospel truth when YOU say so....

Don't feel bad my MZ3 is a bad apple but nobody thinks so nor will they fix it. 8 months and the transmission is crapped out on me numerous times. (with the gears slipping and the clutch sticking and whatnot)

I've got a red one that comes into my car wash, its an 05 and its boosted! That sucker is fast as hell!! I'm contemplating getting one whether or not I win the lottery :D
