Stoopid Tint Ticket

it is supposed to be due to them not being able to see inside of your car to see if you have a gun/knife or something when they are pulling you over and ask you to get out of the car, its a hazard for their own safety of the officer.

I would be fine with this reasoning if not for the fact that vans, SUVs and limos are exempt. Because, y'know, only law-abiding citizens drive those vehicles and would never reach for a gun.

Maybe it pisses off the cops that they have to do their job and write stoopid tickets when they could be offering their services for greater good, so he ****** with OP. Cops are human too.

Are you seriously suggesting that it's OK for armed cops to screw with people because they're in a bad mood?

Cops have a tremendous amount of power, and with that comes the responsibility to act professionally. That includes not messing with people just because you can. If you can't do that, you're not fit to wear the badge.

lol
i'll b!tch about every single ticket i get
here in hawaii they can pull you over for anything... they don't need a reason... they can just make one up...

it's $270 per window here if it's less than 35%
i used to run 20% tint cuz it wasn't illegal looking dark... but everytime i got pulled over their reason was because my tint. Then came the stupid other ticket "Recon".... they got me everytime...

2007 was the first time i got any ticket in my car after almost 4years of ownership... total i got slapped with 3 tint tickets($270) and 3 recon tickets($70) in december....

sure i was mad but... i knew i was illegal... so what did i do... i got legal tint and got my recon... now i don't get harassed at all... i even drive through the hot spots on the island where police love to pull over any type of car that looks rice or racey...

sucks about the ticket... but illegal is illegal and that's more than enough reason for them to pull you over...

police are human too... i know a few in my unit... they are very cool off duty... they even drink with us after drills down at the park... very well knowing we all have to drive afterwards... but as soon as they put there uniform and badge on... they become the a$$hole again
and for others b1tching about police being a$$holes... that's there job... im certain it's a pshyc thing... im 98% certain if you were a law enforcement officer you would be an a$$hole too... sh!t how can you nicely give someone a ticket...

SUVs and vans can only have privacy glass in the rear. they still have to have untinted front windows. same with limos.

I plan to be (lol2)

as soon as a graduate with my bachelors in criminal justice, i plan on joining the local police dept, or CHP. Then eventually to move into federal law enforcement.

Clarification, I meant exempt for tint laws governing %s on all windows. I still would like to see a police officer try to justify this exemption for those vehicles with a straight face. I'm sure most traffic cops would very much like to be able to see through the rear glass when approaching a vehicle.

i hope you reach your goal...
i also tried... and somewhere along the lines i missed my second interview... i got a letter saying i missed it but didn't get a pre-letter telling me when it was... there was a number to call but I kinda lost interest after that...

and i'm a super cool person i think... but if i was a cop... fukers better watch out cuz superd1ck here i come

about them being an a$$ like i said... it's mostly a psychology thing...an a$$ will get more fear and respect from the victim... if they were to act like pu$$ies im pretty sure ppl would run all over them

You can be tough without being an asshole. I've had a lot of experience with cops (both working with them and also *ahem* not so much), and most of them are very professional. They do their job well, and they don't screw with people unnecessarily.

Not acting like an asshole doesn't make you a pussy. One can command power while being respectful. Each NYPD car reads "Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect." That's what being a cop should be about. If some don't understand it or feel it's bulls*** and doesn't apply to them, they have no place being cops.

front window tint in california is illegal. You cannot have it on the car. The shops still tint the windows, but you have to sign a waiver knowing that you are aware its illegal. everytime ive gotten windows done ive had to sign this.

While it is a lame reason for being pulled over, its a reason nonetheless. Perhaps you did something to grab his attention in the first place?
The legal front window tint in CA is 80% from what I heard.

I'm 35% all around (except windshield) and never had an issue here in PA, where basically tinting is illegal--and this is after being pulled over a couple times. So you were probably way too dark.

I know a few people that are cops. Some are cool really know their stuff when it comes to cars and mods, etc, and might have given you a break if you talked shop with them. The others simply have an attitude, guys that I knew from high school who always had a chip on their shoulder. These guys will never give you a break.

Pay the ticket and get lighter tint if you *must* tint.

From what ive read, the statute says you cant have any tint on the front windows... and i just did a quick google search, came up with that the front windows must allow more than 70% of light in.

regardless, 80% is hardly enough to make a difference, and anyone who gets their windows tinted doesnt get them done at 80%.

Damn, 70%? Haha yeah, people sure don't put 80% on their front windows in CA. It's like 45% and lower.

I think many people here are missing the point. As I mentioned prior (apparently the 1st 2 posters did not read the whole story), I had my windows down at the time. I always drive with my windows down so that I don't get pulled over. I was nothing but polite to the officer because I wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible, and being rude would have only caused more problems.
The main issue I have is the fact that if my windows were down, then there was nothing obstructing the "officer's" view, so he had no reason to pull me over and ask me to wind them up.
And to who asked where I live, I live in Costa Mesa now, but I was commuting to south county from Corona at the time.
NC is right, they changed Cali law to say that you can have nothing obstructing the front windows or windshield.

NO TINT on front windows is legal in CA. Any tint on driver/passenger front windows is illegal in California. SO, that's why I don't tint my fronts, period. I don't need a stupid reason to get pulled over. I also run with my front license plate too. They can stop you for that as well...
