SS AFC V.2 help

:
07 MS3 GT Heavily Modified
so i wired everything up according to the install guide on Casapolis http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110033 ...put everything back together and my car started up fine...took it for a drive car started bogging really bad...i guess that i should mention that this is a used unit...i attempted then to upload the superstock map...but i can't get the SS AFC to connect to my laptop...i have the drivers for the usb - db9 cord...installed the r4 software before hand...for steps like 9-12 do you still tap those wires on the harness of the ecu...is say like the ones that you are supposed to install towards the input side of the harness (those would be tapped let's say a couple of inches away from the harness..and for like what they would say tap like the green wire to the maf sensor side of the cut wire are they referring to that being tapped under the hood or after the the wire that gets put closest to the input....so say here is the harness then like an inch away from the harness you tap in the input wire...and then like an inch or two after that you tap the (maf sensor side of the wire to there) is that correct???...otherwise i am going to recheck all of the wires i am pretty sure atleast the power wire is hooked up right...if the power wire is hooked up right then shouldn't i still be able to upload the stock super map?

you gotta check what COM port your serial/usb cable is on....
not sure but some wires you tap some you cut

Mine wouldn't connect either, bought a cable from eBay, had the software drivers installed and it still wouldn't connect. I had someone tell me he had a Belkin USB-to-Serial cable, he was able to connect with that, so I found one on eBay. It's on it's way here.

Now, one thing I'm wondering. You know that with the power wire, it's T-tapped.. what if the wires aren't touching the metal on the t-tap like it's supposed to be? I'm wondering about this.. I took enough of the covering off the wire, clamped it in there, but when the little thing goes on that covers the metal part, the wires are actually in between the plastic. So I'm kinda wondering if it's getting a connection or not.. since obviously if it's not getting a connection the computer wouldn't be able to connect because the AFC wouldn't have any power going to it.

i dunno it's ******* pissing me off though it's 10:30 at night and i gotta wake up at 5 am to work...and it's ******* like 15 degrees outside...are the install guide from casapolis's post any different then the V.2......are all wires tapped on the harness and not under the hood...somebody please answer fast...i don't want to be up all night

Did you connect the vacuum line also? The little 1/8" one coming from the AFC that goes to your Intake Mani.

that is what i thought
now for like the pink wire you tapped that one further away then the pink/blue wire of the SS AFC on pin number 60 right of the ecu??!!

There is one (I think it is the pink/blue) that comes off the ECU, then it travels up away from the ECU but then is surrounded with black tape and then splits off into a couple other wires. I did this one as close to the ECU as I could, without losing the room I had to work with when crimping. I think that's the wire that is cut, you put one AFC wire on the ECU side, then another AFC wire to the wire that's no longer connected to the ECU.

That one is pin 60.. the AFC wire that is pink/blue connects to that wire on pin 60, after you cut it in half. That one goes to the half that is going into the ECU. The AFC wire that is pink, connects to the other half of the pin 60 wire that is going toward your engine bay.

I just cut my pin 60 wire in half, then connected them up, I didn't cut more of the wire or anything.

i think that it's powered up though...cuz otherwise why the hell would my car bog so bad...it will bog any where from 1,200 rpm up to pretty much anything....it seems like when i drive it only up to like 2,800 rpm then shift to the next gear and take it easy and then drive that gear up to or hold it steady at 2,800 rpm it will be alright..but anything more or less bogs...i didnt even try to boost at all cuz of the bogging...the drivers work for the usb cable it's the belkin usb-db9...i duno it's pissing me off just thinking about it..mostly cuz of how early i have to work

no s***...........can any one verify this before i start hacking up that wire...lol(bang)

would any wires like say the pin 60 or anything else besides the ignition (red afc wire) make the SS AFC not be able to load a map though i tried all com ports ....and s***

On second thought, I may go back and take off the T-taps.. and replace them with those connectors that you squeeze together that have the metal piece inside them.. the ones that allow you to have one whole wire and one wire with the end inside the connector, then you squeeze it together. That may be a more definite connection instead of the T-taps.

If I go out into the pouring rain, unbolt my ecu plate thing to take photos, you better love me forever.

yeah i sodered mine..or how ever you spell it...well i am taking the lap top with me out to the garage and i am going to look over everything and check back with this thread every couple of minutes for help

oh i will love you forever!!!! trust me...but you are still having troubles with getting the r4 software to connect to the ss afc right?

Here are the pics..

I tried to show where the AFC wires were going.. I put black plastic tube stuff around the wires that went from the AFC, so you will see those and then they will branch off..

See how in the 4th photo in the first post with the photos.. where the T-tap is, and you can see the wires between the plastic?? I think my issue may be there.
