SS AFC V.2 help

thanks alot i will look at these...so are you still having trouble connecting to your ss afc though...like can u upload a map?

Yeah, I dragged my Mac outside when I tried it (used my Windows side that's partitioned), and then I tried it before that with my dad's laptop when he was here for Christmas. I've bought myself a laptop now, should be here on Friday. But yeah, had that issue with not being able to connect. Another member in the AFC Map thread had that same issue, and he bought a Belkin cable, so I figured I'd try that. At least then if it worked for him and I do everything the same with uploading the software, etc. and if I still can't connect then it's probably my power wire going to the AFC.. it's that damn T-tap. I tried to shove the wires up in there so they would touch the metal thing, but they still went between the plastic parts instead.

oh i will love you forever!!!! trust me...but you are still having troubles with getting the r4 software to connect to the ss afc right?

i think that i just hooked up my pink ss afc and pink/blue afc wires up right...ignition wire seems to be good ...taking a look at the others

com port 3 is the only one that works for me, I tried all the usb ports on my laptop before i got it to work.

metalic36 the plastic connector with the metal inside is called a butt connector, and you'll need a red one which is for 16-22 guage wire.

i actually don't recommend those for this application as they don't hold up very well when the wire is pulled, solider and shrink wrap is the best solution.

u must check what com port the USB/serial cable is on. You do this by right clicking my computer>properties>device manager
By default it probably won't be set at any com port between 1-4
You have to manually set it. Let me try and get some screen shots

Well hell, that explains it all. (yippy)

wires are now all hooked up right...putting it back together and gonna fire it up cross fingers...thanks metallica36

no s*** right..gonna check into that(strike)(lol)

Yes, I would think it would be under there.. I'm guessing it will show the serial cable that's connected, then you choose the COM thing you want it under.

give me a few minutes... im updating my OSX... as soon as its done imma restart in windows and get those screen shot for ya
when i first installed the usb/serial adapter it wasn't set on any of the usable com ports

nvm... i'll finish updating OSX later... i'll get those screen shot for ya... let me restart my laptop

if the AFC was not powering up, the car would not run. the AFC acts as a powered intercept for all the sensors and the computer. if the unit did not have power, it would act as a dead box basically and the car would not run at all. if the unit were faulty in any way, it would more than likely still not allow the car to run. i would bet the map on it is just tailored to the prior owner.

I think i have an issue with the afc not sending the right signals when it's not supposed to be interefering with the signals. (values set to 10)

also it doesn't send ecu into open loop when it's supposed to. sigh.. perhaps time for a new one.

it'll be under usb serial bus controllers and then look for usb to serial com
*you ninj'd me
^not quite... but yes if it is indeed installed you will see it there but to configure it you must go to
right click my computer>properties>hard ware>device manager
click on Ports
right click USB Serial Port (COMx)>Properties where the x is what current com port its on
then in the properties window click Port Settings>Advanced
Than you can choose the com port you want it on

ignition was on (engine off...)opened r4 software connected cables to afc and laptop...opened stock super map...clicked the write to afc button on com 2 (cuz i figured out how to switch it ...it was on com 12 but the r4 software doesn't go that high...only to like 8 or 9 ...switched it to com 2 cuz it wasn't being used...) got the little box with the red bar and count down counting down from 10 to 1...then the error code saying that it couldn't connect to afc...i know the previous owners map is on there ...otherwise my car wouldn't bog so bad........could it be my usb / db9 cable????????????????? it's the belkin one with the three little lights on it...downloaded that driver etc etc etc....bed time(pissed)
