Price for snow tires

Well, one problem is that you're abit behind the 8-ball with snow tires and are at the mercy of what's in stock. Gotta buy them early.

Buying TPMS for snows is a waste of cash IMO. Actually TPMS is just extra weight to me anyway. I'm running mine without them and the light stays on. Doesn't bother me and I've got a tire pressure gauge in my glove compartment to check my tires every once and a while.

What size are you looking at? I recommend 16". You're wasting your money for anything bigger and 16's don't look half bad on this car. I have to take a pic of mine and post it up. Tire Rack = 16"

Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 (215/55-16) = $88 each
Steel wheels = $55 each

or

16X7.5 Sport Edition F5 Silver Painted wheels = $99 each


Total = $748 with F5 wheels or $572 with steel wheels.

Plus shipping. Now it looks like they're out of stock and are "special order" in alot of these tires at their various warehouses, so you may want to call them and find out what's available near by to keep shipping costs down. When I ordered my Dunlop's about 3 weeks ago, they shipped to my house in South Jersey from New Castle, DE and I got them the day after I ordered them and only paid $40 or so for shipping.

205/60-16 is the ideal size, but 215/55-16 will work and they're running a special on those Dunlops at $88 each. But like I said, you're a little late. Winter is here and stock is low.

Hate to say it man, but livin in NJ, shoulda seen this one coming. (hand) I never buy a car without fully researching it. In doing so you would have learned that the MS3 pretty much sucks in the snow without the right tires.

Check craigs list and ebay. I saw winter sets going for less than $500.00 on there. Just understand it is buyer beware. Do the research before you buy from anyone. Gotta make sure the rolling diamete is the same or close to, as what comes stock, otherwise your speedometer and odometer will not work. Even more importantly your ABS system is calibrated to the size tire you have, and can malfuntion in an emergancy if you get the wrong size tires.

Also before you get anything off the net, make sure the bolt pattern is correct. Not all rims will fit on your car.

If you don't want to do that, I got sunny snow tires new 16 inch rims for $750 from Town Fair Tire. They beat tirerack.com's price by about $100.

Frequent Flyer is correct on saying get 16s. Like he said 205/60/R16 is best. That is what I run. Don't let anyone tell you the 16s wont fit on your car either because they definately will. For 18s you will pay $200 a tire, and have to have them removed/installed every season. With a rim/tire package you will save money in the long run.

I agree that safety is paramount, but I also definitely agree that 1000 bucks or more is way too much to pay when there are less expensive options. I also second the craigslist suggestion; I picked up my set of 16" steel wheels with one-season-old 205/60R16 Blizzak Revo1s (not the best tire, but effective) for $250. They had been on a MS6 but I test fit one before I bought to confirm they fit.

I would absolutely recommend scouring clist for a few days before you shell out a grand or more on snow tires. It is late to be looking, but good luck!

Oh, one other thought: if you're trying to save money, a very bad way to do it is to buy snow tires for only the drive wheels. Even though it will be more expensive, get a full set of four because controlled turns and stops are important too.

Green Diamond are argualbly the best... and perhaps even the least expensive.

I put on (4) 215/45R18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 from Tirerack at $172 a tire. So worth the money ($20 off per tire) - traction, handling and performance. After this weekend snow in the NE I have no doubt that I made the right decision.

LOL He's not going to be happy when he has to replace his 18" RE050A's when they wear out in 25k miles. I drive 25k miles a year, which pretty much means I'll be going through summer tires every 18 months or so if I swap to my winter tires for a while. I've rotated my Potenza's twice now and there's not too much meat left on them for only having 14,000 highway miles. They're probably at about 60%.

I managed to get a set of Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S installed for $544 on the stock rims 225/40 but that was when they were on sale before winter. They work pretty good in packed snow and a couple inches. Due to being lowered my car didnt go out when we had 8". My friend still has his RE050A's on and i pushed him out of a ditch sunday, no traction cant get anywhere.
