Hello guys, i need everyones .02 cents with this new problem that I'm having. i purchased a prosport boost gauge with the peak warning etc... Had it installed on friday by a local shop here. Now the gauge seemed to have a mind of its own because the functions are not working properly. And now to top things off, last night i touched the gauge and it actually shocked me. After it did, it turned itself on and off. I tried to take the gauge off the mounting cup this morning and it shocked me yet again. The car was off this time, and they key was not in the ignition.

any ideas? should i question the shop or the manufacturer?

I would. I installed my prosport boost gauge last night and i don't have this prablem. It could be the gauge also. But i would take it to the shop first and ask them. There is for sure a wiring issue if its the gauge it self or the way they wired it But for sure take it to the shop first.

just got off the phone with prosport and they were very helpful. Long story short, they have never heard of anything like this before. I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow have them recheck the wiring.

ms3=evokilla, where did you match up your wires?

I know its supposed to be red=12v constant, black= ground, orange = 12v ignition.

Even if the gauge was busted, it should not shock you. A broken gauge that is wired correctly will just not function correctly. A physical shock indicates there is something fubar'd in the wiring.

I'd go back to the shop, and without telling them whats happening, have the tech grab the gauge !!!

If you can get up under the dash I would defiantely pull the fuse!

I had a recent electrical fire under my dash that could have gone very bad!!!!!!

I did not want to splice into the factory wiring harness I crossed red and orange and ran wire to the radio fuse. It doesn't hold memory for the boost warning light.

sounds like there is a ground issue from a electricians point of view either there is a a loose ground or sumwhere else in the gauge its already grounded

I dont know if this will help you. I installed a prosport boost gauge in my car by following the how-to here a month later when it got warmer (last spring) I found out my ac is not working anymore. the whole summer i ddint have an ac, my dealer did not want to fix it, ( disconnected the boost gauge) i went to another dealer and they honored the warranty. It turned out my temp control unit wasnt working. they fixed it, two days later the ac was not working again. I brought it back, turned out the wiring harness was fried. They did the work again and now it's working again for weeks now. Anyways, I'm afraid to hook up my boost gauge again cause I might fry something again. Hope this will help.

This is what I'm affraid of too, messin something critical like what happened to you. Im taking the car to the shop again today. I dont want to sound like im bashing on the shop, i have seen their work before and its been top notch. Im hoping everything is figured out today. Or it might be something else...

also, through prosport, i figured out what was wrong with the functions on the gague, and its been working fine. now if only i didnt get shocked everytime i touched it..... (thats what she said)
