mazda protege LX 2002
i have a mazda protege LX 2.0 L engine. i need to replace the alternator belt how do i do that? does any have idea or a picture of how to change it?

to replace the alt belt you have to pull off the other belt so ya might as well replace both....

loosen the top bolt on the power steering unit and then the bolt on the bottom of it is the tension bolt loosen it alot and you should see the belt get slack in it.

now get up under the car and there is a mounting bolt(loosen first) and a tension bolt that you have to loosen to get the belt loose

now put the belts back on tighten up the tension bolts till the belt is nice and tight with lil' deflection and then tighten the mounting bolt back down. DONE

umm... you only have to loosen the alternator tensioner bolt... the altenator belt is on the outside so you don't have to remove the power steering, ac, water pump belt

or you could always follow the shop manual http://www.floptical.net/mazda/

did i get the belts backward again...DOH.....

edit: my alt belt is on the inside of the ps/ac belt

hehe... either that or i have mine on backwards...

hmm... nevermind i have no idea what im talking about... just follow the manual

bgibb, do you run your car with your timing belt cover removed?

It does appear that way huh? I dnt think I would do that. Might not be an issue, but if you got luck like mine, something would happen!

oh yeah...I was looking at the wrong post (pow)...my bad

Speaking of bad luck, that's about the only thing on the front of my car that hasn't been f***ed up, so knock on wood (or vinyl plastic trim):)

steam but not over heating

I just got on this site don't know jhow to use it yet. I have a problem with mym '96 protege. I.m getting steam around the radiator but not over heating according to my temp gauge in the car. It does sloooowly loose coolant. Could this be a thermostat or water pump problem. Hoses are okay. I also get miss firing after it get up to temp. Can you help or know someone who can give me some advice.
