I have the mazda3 2008 5 door Gt...it is a tiptronic /automatic transmission......is it worth it or safe to add a turbo to this car?.....if not how can i gain my HP

agreed, if i had the money, i would trade up as well. Dont waste the time and gobs of money it will take to buld the engine and trans. If you want more hp, look at the mods section, i believe there is a few writeups on how to gain some ponies.

Just trade up. An automatic transmission likely will not be able to handle the extra power from a turbo. You will be much better off in the long run simply buying the car that is designed to go fast rather than strapping a rocket booster onto a soapbox.

there's plentoy f ppl running 300-400whp daily on automatics. but don't get me wrong, they're built; and it'll cost quite a bit of money compared to just owning a 5spd. the first things to do are:

1. transmission cooler upgrade
2. upgraded/built valve body

While I agree with most all of the previous posts it is possible to turbo the ATX without building anything up. That being said you're not going to be looking at 300-400 whp. There are a couple of companies selling turbo kits in stages with stage one being a very small amount of boost which the stock components can handle. IIRC I think the entry one was something like 200 whp. Not much, but certainly more kick than the stock what..... 165?

I just don't like hatches...no offense to speed3 owners, just a personal taste thing, but I really liked Mazda styling. So I bought a 2.3 sedan with MTX and bought the Tripointe Engineering turbo kit. It was well worth it, and I've been dyno'd at 245 WHP (granted I've got a buttload of other mods as well). I know this kit will not work for ATX, and I often wish I had a 6th gear (maybe a future mod (wink)).
So get a Speed3 if you want balls from the time you drive off the lot

Why wont it work? wHAT IS THE WEAK LINK? WHAT WILL FAIL? SOME OF THE FASTEST CARS AT THE TRACK RUN ATX. JUST LOOK AT THE NEW EVOS. AN REGARDING THE MODS.... YOU HAVE TO PLAY TO PLAY. MY 2004'S WARRANT IS JUST ABOUT UP AND I'D LOVE TO SLAP A TRI POINT KIT ON IT. I'VE OUTGROWN SHIFTING IN TRAFFIC JAMS. CAN SOMEONE HELP US ATX OWNERS

I'm just saying that Tripoint Eng says the specific kit I'm running is not for ATX, but it's probably something to do with setup. The kit was configured for a 2.3 MTX to be bolt on with no fabrication, and that was true to word. You should check them out, or even contact them...see if they've got something for ATX
...and I feel you on shifting in traffic jams...but that's the only place shifting sucks:)
