MS3 Mitsubishi 20G turbo project

Lol, I remember using 20g's to upgrade eclipses back in the late 90's. Seems like a step back to put an older technology turbo onto a state of the art car though. Although, if you're on a budget... go for it. They work well on 2.3L stroked 4G63's... so I see no reason it wouldnt work well on an MS3.

actually the 20g is still used very often in the subaru/mits world, i tune at least 1 every 2 weeks, and they still make great power.

The 20g is horribly underrated. They were and still are a bit pricey buying new, especially compared to the slew of "bolton" 50 trim hybrids that came out around 3 years ago. I put my Mitsu 16g through absolute hell and it never made so much as a hiccup in the 3 years that I ran it. After the 16g I went to a Green, which is only a TD06h20g with a 50 trim compressor and a custom journal bearing, never had a problem with that turbo either and the car made powah.

i dont want to rain on your day but i've had quiet a few dsm's, im one of those guys that never learned his lesson when it came to those cars and i dont think you've thought this quite thru....but i've had a couple 20g turbos, had one that made 390awhp on a talon too....couple things i dont think you've taken into notice. People go with the garrett turbo's because they are bigger, take longer to get into boost and have spool somewhere around 3k-3500rpms where the cam driven fuel pump really starts to kick in. To the best of my knowledge we dont have a competent tuning and fueling solution for the ms3 as yet so putting a rediculously fast spooling turbo on a ms3 is asking for problems.

And before anyone tries to equate the spool of the 20g to the k04, even a reworked unit....dont. yes they might spool fast but that 20g moves more mass....and with no fuel or timing control, you might as well throw a grenade under your hood and start booking. Im not saying it cant be dont, its just one hell of a risk because of the notorious quick spool of the MHI 20g and our lack of fuel control.

but anyway, good luck with the project.

We've used at least 3 different turbos including a big honking one with Motec stand-alone.
