'88 323 GT-X transmission question

Which transmission is in the '88 323 gtx awds? is it the g-series? and also, is this the year that has the stronger gears that people are putting into the 3rd gen protege transmissions?

lastly, what are the chances of this transmission bolting up to the fs-de 2.0l motor?


and before anyone flames me for bringing this up, this is merely a curiosity thread and the likelyhood of me actually attempting this is slim since I'm a college student lol

GTX trannies are basically glass in a steel box. Not worth the effort. The BG GTX/GTR trannies are much stronger and can handle a bit more abuse. I believe the BG's have an F series in them, but not 100% sure.

As so far as mounting one to your 2.0l, you will be making all kinds of custom mounts to make it work from what I understand. Its not worth the hassel. Its not a bolt up from what I can tell

Inform yourself before you go passing on your own misinformation.
The BG got the fseries on the SOHC model and the Gseries on the DOHC model.
The Gseries in the BJ has been revised with a stronger bellhousing and 5th gear synchro. Its also machined for the LSD as the BG Gseries needs to have a corner (about the size of a pea) grinded down.

USDM GTX transmissions are trash. The USDM BG AWD transmissions are worse. The BG GTX/GTR transmissions are better but still a timebomb
