2.0 conversion to 1.8 Coil Packs

aight so $/gain(buy anymeans) is it worth it....i wanna runa tally cause i
'm at the point i need to change 'em.....

so stock coil over plugs '02 2.0l protege ~$50. stock yada yada yada
1.8l coils and new valve cover ~$200. looks good performance gain ehhh

the magnacors? the 1.8L wires they sell won't work with the coils...been there, done that...

Just curious what issues you had with these? I just recently did the 1.8L coil pack upgrade and used those very wires. I haven't had any issues. Wondering if there's something I should be watching out for.

Best to just stick with good ole NGK copper plugs, either standard BKRs or long reach ZFRs. Nothing else will gain you anything except a thinner wallet & possible problems.

what does ZFR mean?

some people have, others have not. i did not because my gasket was in good shape...if i were to do it again, i would...just in case.

so its done...i forgot how much new plugs work better. Ill have pic of it tomorrow was about dark when i finshed.

ok, i read through all 20 pages....the onyl issue i have now is with the valve cover. I can't get hold of a 626 2.0l valve cover and i read somewhere you can use a 1.8l valve cover? and for gaskets should I use the 2.0L gaskets (from a protege)? and one guy had issues with misfiring when he didn't change his valve cover, some about the wires being too short?

it works better if you change out the valve cover. the 1.8 cover will work just fine, too.

I didn't change the cover. Mostly, because I couldn't find one. I opened the wire harness tube, carefully, and routed the coil pack to the right of the header, as pictured in this thread by someone else. The wiring was time consuming but worth it.

If anyone wants a 626 valve cover to do the conversion I have one in the FS section.
