TWM Short Shifter with TRZ MM?

Hey guys,

I was wondering how much difference a short shifter would make the car feel if I already have the motor mount installed. I've heard mixed reviews. Some say it makes a lot of difference, and some say they can barely even feel it. So basically, I want to know if the short shifter for $225 is worth it.

Damn isn't the Cobb $275? If you are going to spend that much money, go all the way. The throw and height are both adjustable so you can fine tune it to your likes. Win - win.

phillyb chime in! he has both the trz dogbone and the twm ss. I drove it, and it was too much vibration for me, (that was probably the mm speaking there) but the shifter felt smooth, but with AC that trz was too rough for me.

Huge difference. Seriously. You won't regret it. Try and find one used on the forums!

Could you elaborate? Like...what feels the most difference? The smoothness when shifting?

@UHATEIT: Yeah I was surprised with the vibration also after installing the motor mount. I didn't think it would be so bad...but I don't mind haha. The performance difference was incredible.

I had my SS installed maily because I play tennis a lot and my elbow was always swolen. The stock shifter didn't help.

Im a little confused by your OP of how the SS would feel with the MM installed. What do motor mounts have to do with a short shifter ?

Anyway my advice would be to save your money for other mods. The shifter bushings (30$) alone make the shifts feel less "mushy" and error prone. The SS is nice to have no doubt, but it really doesn't do much. It only reduces throw by 33% so you could basically shift just as fast with a stock shifter. I do however like the lower knob height that the stage 2 offers. The TRZ SS stage 2 wasn't fun to install either. Took me about 4 hours thanks to one NASTY stripped bolt that I had to hand saw for 3 hours.

Looking at the mods in your sig there are still a few cheap and easy bolt ons that I would get first such as a test pipe.

Overall yes the SS does feel nice but no I don't think its worth the 225. Literally lol, 225 bucks for 1 piece of metal about 6 inches long with some screws. The SS wont make you go faster if thats what your after. Stick with the shifter bushings for now and worry about real power mods before you start bothering with little extras.

Edit: Also if you dont know already the test pipe is bolt on so you can remove it easily if your conscerned about warranty.

It's easy to shift fast with the short shifter. It feels slightly smoother, although it requires more effort in 5th and 6th.

yeah phillyb says he likes the vibes and says it feelws great and the mm is awesome. it was too vibby for me tho, i;m sure you get used to it over time tho, but he let me drive it with the ss and mm and it shifted and planted itself very well.

you can pm him phillyb, he has both of those items and will give a detailed description if needed.

i have the trz poly, twm ss and bushings. There is no lag between shifting, power is right on, theres no rubbery feel in your shifts and it doesnt feel like your rowing a damn boat. Short precise, easy throws, and power down to the ground better. A must buy in my book.

Ahh...shoot this is making me want to order the short shifter right now. Christ, if I keep this up, I'm gonna be broke by the end of the month...

Right now, even with the MM installed, it feels like when I'm starting from a complete stop, I have to put more gas in order for the start to be smooth. Otherwise, the car will buck when I release the clutch...is that normal?

Is the Cobb still having the same issues as before? Something with the threading...

What are you talking about? Lag between shifts = the time it takes to shift / turbo respool ?

Power is right on . . . what do you mean ?

Power lag between shifts due to the engine movement not turbo spooling. with the stock mm the engine moves a ton each time you shift, the engine moves a lot less with an upgraded mm so the power to the wheels seems right there, there is no lag while the engine shakes back and forth and with the shifter bushings it doesnt feel all rubbery and sloppy anymore so everything feels more precise.

I'm getting the medieval motorsports and passenger mount from *******************. Will my car be much louder, vib wise atleast. Does anyone have this set up yet and have any input. Getting a great deal from them and cant wait to install it.
