Sunvisor / Headliner area vibrates, anyone?

So i come to a stop light, and is not first time i heard this buzz.

The headliner above me and passenger top, all the way to the sunvisor areas are vibrating... think old Mitsu/Hinno/Isuzu diesel trucks and vans @ Idle.

Anyone body else experiencing this?

I'm @ 3000 km now. Touchwood still has no rear suspension bushing noise.

But i finally have the gas cap issue... Now the cap tread looks to be screwed up, because i never open and close smoothly now. Now, i only click once, if click two or more, i won't open it again... Is this under warrenty?

  • Weird, no vibration on idle, very quiet (06 and 08). How many RPMs while on idle?
  • Gas cap, yes, it should be under warranty (if you have not tampered with it, of course)

I've got the same problem. It is just over and behind my head near the "B" pillar. I am thinking about putting some foam or something in there to put pressure on it.

It's probably

It maybe the adjustable seatbelt anchor or a loose wiring harness. Are both of you hearing it from the same place?

A very light touch on the headliner anywhere from just over the back of my head to the rearview mirror will stop it. So it is more like the whole thing is vibrating.

Hi Coolmazd5, it only happens when sun visors both flipped down. No problem when not used and if its original place. RPM is normal... been driving around. Maybe the weight they pulls down (yeah i know it might not even 1 lb or so) just pull off some space between headliner and frame.

But i don't experience this problem anymore... so please ignore my thread...

Car drive as nice as day 1 =D

Cool. Only thing I can say is that the Mazda5 suffers from weather :D. While not in idle, it always has some weird tap noise popping somewhere, either when is to hot, or too cold, so don't be too worried. I think the plastics used by Mazda contract and expand a lot more than other cars...

Coolmazda, i also experience more stuff, please tell me i'm the only lucky guy... first off, i'm not complaining or want to be an @$$... the 5 is very competitive in its sector or price range, also its really MADE IN JAPAN.

But...

1. Car currently (well, quite often), get some kind of bad smell with AC is on (for first 5 minutes)... Its really bad i have to roll down the windows to get some fresh air (2 toddlers in our car). Never had this issue with other Japanese cars...

2. Gas spillage - gas spray out on first topup click/stop, not overfilling and the neck is completely closest possible to tank mouth. Now my car has 3000 km only and less than 10 fills up, but i experience at least 3 times the gas wetting my shoes and pants. I feel like filling up my big GM truck... which suppose to have diesel spillage when topping up.

3. Spiders... lots of spider airborne right in my face for at least 5-6 times! never an issue on other cars...

4. We did full interior leather protection... but it just doesn't work... still very easy to leave mark or prints...

5. okay... not to mention the gelling up gas cap...

Never had that problem with the 06, but the 08 had a weird a/c scent when new. It is now gone

No, never had that problem (scratch). Stops at the first click cleanly, I don't continue filling up after that. Now, the drops after taking the pump out, that pisses me off but I'm just stupid I guess, LOL

Sorry, I don't follow, Do you really mean insects inside your car? (boom02)

4. We did full interior leather protection... but it just doesn't work... still very easy to leave mark or prints...

This is the very first time I read about Mazda5 leather issues. I've seen posts on the delicate cloth fabric used (06/07/08), but nothing that a good 3M fabric protector spray cannot solve :D

5. okay... not to mention the gelling up gas cap...

Did you get it fixed?

It will come back, trust me. That is how it started for me, then it got worse...

haha are you guys for real?

CoolM - yup, i mean the insect spiders... it has to be so much holes and cavity they can let in. Not found on other cars. It don't bothers me... but i have 2 toddler on board which i'm worry.

About the gas spillage - you just answer like what talon tell me too :D But read carefully - i said the really first click, which you can't avoid. Or like one of the fellow said, when it gets around 45L liter, then slow down. (hand)

As with the leather. The side cushions that wraps your butt actually starts to winkles and darken! (eek2) Thats looks more like 100,000 km / 60000 miles...

No, we don't have a big butt... wife's only 100 lb and barely 5 feet one. And i'm just an average 5' 10. (smash)

But today i finally found something good (actually BEST), than any car we driven/own. Thats minimum over 25 MB, another 15 premium European makes, and 20+ the rest of makes - the heat seat comes on just like Jonathan Bailey... (mj) its really a great great feature in Canada...

Hey derstar, my leather is starting to darken too. I tried using leather cleaner product, but didn't work very well. I think the best thing is just to use a damp cloth and wipe it, and then put the leather conditioner to protect it.

Anyways, I have several annoying issues with my car too. I guess we were just used to our benz before this car, and we shouldn't expect the quality to be the same. My engine is noisy during cold starts, like the valve needs to be adjusted or something. But goes away when warm. And I can always feel vibration on the highway, heavier around 80km/hr, and minor vibrations around 90-120km/hr. I can hear suspension noises on speed bumps, and certain bumps. And I find that the transmission is a little jerky and not smooth. If my car is rolling, and then I press the gas pedal slightly, the clutch doesn't engage very smoothly, it feels a little clunky or jerky. If I'm parking into my parking space, I would put car into reverse and back in, and if I put it into Drive, there's a jerking/clunking noise and feeling. Then there are minor things like the leds do not line up on the tail lights.

I'd like to take it to the dealer to get these things fixed, but I don't have time, and I need the car every single day, so I live with it. It's sad because the reason why I bought a brand new car is so that I don't have to worry about issues with my car, and worry about taking it in for repairs and having loss of use of my vehicle.

Other than that, it's a nice fun vehicle.

Just exactly what I feels...

Leather: No way... i'll just let it darken, i'm not gonna reapply these chemicals like once awhile, too smelly for me, esp i don't want my kids to smell it~!! it stays in the car too long (we did full leather protection already 1st day btw). i'll just let it be...

Tranny: I suppose about right - not a defect... these new Japanese 5 Speed Auto on Civic, Corolla or Camry just behave similar if not same. They are made to work - can't compare with trannies found on MB...

Highway vibration - not found on my yet touchwood...

Suspension noise - sometimes only... still acceptable...

Unsmooth valve - i guess its standard too? except 2 new Hondas i had which have cams balancer or something

Taillights - i often see other 08 GT have this problem 0 not aligned perfectly or burnt led... mine doesn't looks like align very perfectly either, but its okay... wonder do they change the whole tailight assembly for one burnt LED? that would be scary when running out warranty

Although the 5 is base on the 3, Ford Focus, Volvo chassis, but the 5 totally drives and feel differently. Is much rigid than Civic and Corolla... and still the top two most fun car to drive within the league. Only thing would be more fun to drive might be a VW Beetle Con or maybe an Civic Si.
