Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

So I really don't feel like reading through 30 pages but occasionally I can smell my clutch after driving even if I didn't slip the clutch once or drive hard at all... Could this error be responsible?

I'm used to the clutch now so I don't really feel like going in to getting it fixed but I definetly feel that the clutch release is uneven (so much so that I know have issues driving other standards now that I'm used to this) and all my friends agree, is it worth it?

If I just got an aftermarket clutch once the warranty runs up would that fix my problem or could be more complex?

it depends on what your car's VIN falls under.... there are 2 types of clutch TSB.... there is a type A and a type B.... they cover different parts. The type A is the whole shebang, it's not just the clutch but also the pedal, clutch assembly, etc. It's quite a few parts.... the type B pretty much only covers the clutch and maybe the clutch assembly (can't remember) but it's about half or LESS parts than all the parts used on the type A

so if you have a type A and you get a new clutch but still have the same pedal and assembly it might still give you problems, you would have to check the TSB to see what your VIN falls under.

s*** I have the type A...
I bought the car used though so is there anyway of knowing if the guy had it done before?

Also how long does it take? Is it worth the time? Has anybody experienced worse clutch relaiablity/performance after the change?

I'm gonna ask them when I go get my A/C fixed, see if they even do it.

usually there's an "authorized dealer modification" sticker on the door jamb or on the hood near the intercooler

Hmm well couldn't find one of those anywhere however on clutch pedal it does have "9GP9A" written on it. But I doubt that means anything...

I forgot to add, the dealer would have the info as to whether or not the previous owner had it performed.

Ive only got 8k on my 07 speed 6. Its got one of the faulty clutches. How should I approach the issue at the dealership? Just call them and tell them my clutch is hard to maneuver? I want to make sure I do everything right so I dont waste 2 days removing / installing mods sigh. Also what about the TSB #. Should I bring that to the dealer so they dont try to bull me and play dumb? Im kinda scared becuase those guys at the dealer can say whatever they feel like in regards to the clutch. They can just pretend it works fine and ill be there screwed. I looked at the website posed in post # 421 but I didn't really find a TSB for the faulty clutch.

Look at one of my previous posts. There is a link with all 5 TSB's listed with the dealer/ TSB reference number.

What I told them verbatum was "It is absolutely impossible to get a smooth engagement while shifting gears".

I took it in, left it with them, they did a 'certification' to make sure which parts where faulty and got it repaired. Since the vehicle was still under warranty (obviously) they gave me a loaner when I dropped it off. Took em about a week to get it done.

Did they tell you if it was Mazda warranty, or extended warranty?(freak)

Mazda... but again gonna double check and will advise. I've never owned a car that didn't have a factory powertrain warranty but you've got me thinkin the mileage my others have gone up to. And keep in mind these are manufacturers ranging from Pontiacs, VW's, Jeep's, Honda's etc..... quite a wide spectrum.

I personally feel the performance is better. Now mind you Im not speaking of the engine/ tranny performance, but how much more I get out of it and how much harder I can push it by not feeling that I need to drive it gently becasue it feels like I will break something.

Dont Get Pissed Or Annoyed....

.....at all my consecutive posts please. But I feel that this is such an issue that I want to give my advice (for what it's worth) and help to anyone trying to get this warrantied. Plus there have been so many good questions I want to give my experience with getting this successfully completed to anyone who has yet to....hence all the personal responses.

I know how annoying it can be to read some dude's post's who makes it seem like he knows everything (hopefully I dont fall under this category).

Then again I am in sales and we all know salespeople like to hear themselves talk.....

Thanks everybody.

P.S. Not to mention I owe an enormous debt of grattitude to this forum and more specifically whoever started this thred (too lazy to check) for bringing this to my attention in the first place.....THANKS AGAIN!!!

If you're smelling the clutch, it is slipping, no question. I think the clutch pedal and pushrod are set too high on the "affected" cars and cause the clutch to slip when you're driving normally. You (or a trusted tech) can help by adjusting the pedal height down some and/or then adjusting the pushrod shorter until there is slight play and it can be rotated easily by hand.

Partially true. There are categories A B and C to this TSB. Adjusting the pedal itself is one.

Mine was a full clutch replacement... nothing to do with the pedal.

They all pretty much have powertrain warranties, I'm just talking about the YEAR of the car.... because I thought someone told me that the 100k warranty was only for 2008+ models as people like me with a 2006 speed6 and others with a 2007 speed6 have reported their factory warranty is much less. (like 50 or 60k)

Um..... there's only a Type A and a Type B regarding the clutch TSB, where'd you get a C from? Or am I missing something?

Mine's an 06 too. I'm pretty sure 100k powertrain is SOP when it comes to vehicles. Pretty much like a 1yr warranty is standard on any elecronic purchase...that's actually a law.... s*** the powertrain warranty might be too. Ill have to check.

It takes a week!?
**** that... The clutch isn't actually faulty though is it? It's not damaging the car or anything right? It's just if you want it done right?

Thats what I thought too... going off the info of the original post but the dealer said there was a C also.

Considering the original post was from 5/07 (listing the A & B) Mazda must have come out with a C or possibly re-catergorized them since 07.
