Hope for us Auto Guys yet...

How did jamesk get his AFC to work with the ecu for na. Something about running a wire to the o2 sensor that made the ecu run open loop all the time. Which sound like a o2 clamp

If i wanted to just floor it through all the gears at like 6psi is the valve body alone enough? I read the other posts but i"m kinda lost, what other mods would I need and what part exactly are they?

No way!! You'd need a FULLY BUILT tranny to handle that kind of stress on a daily basis. If you plan on boosting, I highly suggest AT LEAST using synthetic fluid and an external tranny cooler. The valve body will decrease the stress on other tranny components by decreasing the shift times, but it does NOT allow you to just floor it through all the gears. You can maybe get away with that a dozen times and after that you'll be able to wipe your ass with the tranny..

You gotta keep in mind that our cars were nowhere close meant to handle this kind of abuse, therefore the transmissions are pretty weak stuff.

ya, like krayzie says, you might get away with that a dozen times...but the tranny just isn't that strong....when i boost in 1st and mannually shift to 2nd, and D, i let off the gas just a touch and she works fine...of course i don't do that a bunch either...bottom line, you want to go balls to the wall, don't boost the auto! it's great for passing and giving you the little extra mazda didn't..it makes up for the loss of the automatic...but it will never be a drag queen!

^Exactly. At 6 psi the P5 now feels the way it should've felt when it came out of Mazda. It's by no means a fast car, and unless you have ~$5K to invest in a good tranny and engine components, then it never will be..

I meant to include the cooler and fluid in the original post, but i did figure it still wouldn't stand up to that. Anybody know anything about the Lentech Street Terminator, It says it's good for 275 whp so i would think it could take that abuse, I'm just wondering if you could just swap them or if there's more too it?

if i had an extra 2k i'd by that thing in a second...but then i'd need a built motor!

go to transmissions and click in the circle for street terminator - 275hp

Well I'd say if our tranny ever blows up (God I hope it NEVER does!!) this would be a worthy investment. I mean it's cheaper than going the manual swap route, and another automatic would cost at least half of that..

Oh yeah. I forgot they had a transmission called Street Terminator as well as the valve body. My bad.

It is made for the Focus though right? I'm just thinking it might not fit into the bell housing or bolt up differently or something. I tried searching but haven't find anyone conclusively saying they've done it and it works, has anyone on here tried it?

Alsa i meant to ask how exactly the tranny cooler mounts because Ive heard it uses the a/c something or other and i don't have a/c, is this a problem?

The tranny cooler mounts on the front of the AC condenser. If you don't have one, you can just as easily use the radiator. AC doesn't really have a direct impact on being able to install a tranny cooler, it just helps with mounting.

As for the Lentech transmissions, I spoke with Lentech earlier today and they build separate transmissions for the Protege and Focus. Mazda ones have to be ordered in advance because they're not as popular, and the Focus tranny would not be a direct bolt on.

Ya i figured there had to be something different. Its good to know they make one for the Protege though. I'm thinking I'll do the tranny upgrades than save for a turbo kit, maybe HiBosst or one off a MSP and if the tranny implodes (god forbid) street terminator here i come.

I bought alto master kit #133750ahppsc it includes all clutches steels the power pack upgrade, seals, and filter its for the 4f27e trans.
I would recomend just the #133750ahppwr kit it only has the clutchs and steels with the upgrade but alot of the other parts in my kit I cant use, the ford uses different pump seal and filter etc. I would get a mazda fn4ael over haul kit from transstar or another company and probally have less headaches instead of trying to find the right filter, seals ,etc.
the master kit cost about $250 but I spent another $40 getting the filter and pump seal around town plus you need all the molded pistons the kit doesnt include them. they were bout $200 they are all the same as 4f27e except the reverse one so I bought a 4f27e kit and the other piston seperate, could have saved money but didnt want to wait for order.
I think a transtar kit for fn4ael with the pistons is available cheaper but I didnt know then about the differences between the ford and mazda.
then bought the ford racing #m4209-fd kit it has the heavy duty input shaft and torque converter, they just discontinued this kit so I found it from mcnews auto for $650- about half of retail. It has a TCS converter if you want one they probally will still sell this kit.
And yes Im doing it myself but I have worked as pretty much a mechanic so its not too difficult for me.on a scale of 1-10 a 1 would be installing a CAI a 10 would be the trans,
I run no cats have a non-fouler and every inspection they never even look, lucky me.

One last question, do you guys all have the shift-tronic thing or, do you just let it sit in drive or, do you select first then second then drive then turn on the O/D? I'm just wondering because i don't have the shift-tronic thing and I've ridden with people who pretended they had it and picked first then second and so on and it always felt like the car was going to die.
