As Tom Petty once said....

What i have heard and always followed is to not keep the RPM's at a constant at anytime during the first 500 miles. Do alot of shifting and put a good load on the motor every so often. Dont redline it, but get it up towards 5 and 5.5K RPM. Dont use cruise contol. Heres some info on motor break in, take from it what you will.

Can you point me to where the manual says not to exceed 6500 rpms in the first 600 miles? I read it cover to cover and didn't see anything like that.

It's been 6800 miles since my break-in was over, and while I don't recall it specifying a RPM, I know for a fact that it does say to not "race the motor," which means hit high RPMs in factory-speak (or at least I've always understood it to). I picked 6500rpm in my example because it's almost redline.
