With a class one hitch available has anyone pulled a jet ski with there mazda5? If so how did it act? We are considering a Mazda5 but have a jet ski, and the tongue weight cant be more than say 75lbs. The ski and trailer might be pushing 1000lbs though for pulling. My odyssey pulls ith with ease but we are looking at a Mazda5 as well to purchase.
Any tips/sugestions would be great.
Thanks

I pull a 15' jon boat on a regular basis, it weighs 1,000 pounds or so all told. I have pulled a 13' camper on occasion, weight was about 1,300 pounds. You will not even know a jet ski is back there.

I think the vehicle is capable, but I am not Mazda. Towing is not recommended by Mazda and will void your warranty accordingly. Of course, the same vehicle in Europe has a 2000 lbs. tow capacity.

If you are out of warranty, tow away.

How true is this statement?

Rocket, I see that you have towed and also see that you had a motor mount failure that sounded like it was covered under warranty.

Did you remove your hitch when you brought the car in for the mount repair?

That statement cannot be enforced in the USA under the MMWA. That's different than an individual dealer denying you warranty coverage on a particular repair. If you town and have a transmission failure, there's probably going to be a fight. If you tow and have a side door failure, there can't be a fight. Plus, the simple fact is that towing a jet ski will put no more extra strain on the drivetrain than putting a bulky rooftop box on. The proof is in the gas mileage with each. The trailer will strain the brakes more, but it's always on a vehicle operator to learn their vehicle and plan ahead for stops, etc. Or you can get trailer brakes.

No, I did not remove the hitch. Having a hitch is not proof of towing. Plenty of people have hitches for bike racks etc. Besides, I don't think the dealer cares one way or the other.

The car has 67,000 miles now and no issues that I can tell from towing.
