anyone have a desired hp?

for me, i think that [eventually] i'd like to be putting down around 300hp to the wheels (tq will follow).

im pretty sure this can be done on stock internals w/out complications (ie no new rods, injectors, clutch, etc). i also want to keep everything else stock like the wheels and tires, clutch, drive shafts, etc, because i don't go to the track or dragstrip. and i definitley don't dump the clutch trying to beat the ricer next to me at a redlight. my shifting is very easy, and i don't gun 1st or 2nd.

my want for more power (cuz no one really needs more power on the street) is more for highway or passing speeds, which is why i want to keep everything else stock. just that little extra "umph".

and it sounds like these numbers are easily achieved by things like fmic, intake, exhaust, and even a reflash.

(this is not a "how do i make this much power" thread, just starting a topic about where everyone would be happy power-wise)

I read that with CAI and I/C upgrade you could easily be over 300 hp

would you call me crazy if I said I was happy with the improvements of the COBB SRI? For a daily driver (especially driving 80 miles a day to work and back) I think it strikes an almost perfect balance of performance and economy for a daily driver out of the box.

I have a 911 for when i want to get crazy at the track; so I guess that helps.

I am however considering an upgraded set of (lighter) wheels, painting the calipers, and installing an upgraded sound system. I also plan on installing a short shift and bushing kit, and a rear motor mount. I haven't done the motor mount yet because I have not experienced the wheel hop many have as of yet. I can lay down 2 loooong strips of black rubber at will without any wheel hop. The only time I got a little was when it was wet out.

if i wanted a good 1/4 time i woulda gotten a rwd v-8

umm... so what do you plan on doing with all of that horse power then? Just showing off dyno sheets? there is no point in getting a 300hp car, when someone with a 220hp car who drives better than you can run a better 1/4 time. I just find it a bit contradicting if you just want to mod a car to a certain horsepower level instead of learning the ins and outs of driving your car at current (stock or lightly modded levels (intake only really) levels and then when you've hit maximum potential (as a DRIVER) then think about moving ahead and upping your potential cap. just my .02 but its your money so do as you pleaseeeeee

What he said.

well, like i said before. i don't do 1/4 miles or racing at redlights. but i do like having lots of power on the highway. and not to say this car doesn't have more than enough, but i think more would be better for me in that aspect. besides, i guess my dad and i have been going back and forth for a little bit about whose car beats the other's.

the 1/4 mile thing was just in response to assman

and as for driving skills, ok so im not gonna win 1/4 mile or around a track, but how much skill do you need when entering an on-ramp to a highway and just hitting the gas to merge at highway speeds?

it's the same way i feel about my bike. i feel safer if im driving something that is able to escape situations, which the gixxer is perfect for. but that's a whole other topic

The car has enough juice to get to 120 mph right quick from the factory (above that it's a bit of a slow climb, by comparison) and passing doesn't require a downshift from 6th unless you're under 65.

besides, i guess my dad and i have been going back and forth for a little bit about whose car beats the other's.

Then take your dad to a track and race him....or have a third party do lap times, 1/4 mile runs, top speed runs, etc so as to eliminate the driver factor. What's he got, out of curiosity?

You still need to understand and be able to control the physics of the car, and if you're doing on-ramps at double or triple the reccomended speed (just a hunch, but I'd imagine you are), you esepcially do. In fact, I'd say driving on the street like that requires just as much if not more skill than on a track, since you need to be able to avoid more hazards.

And I'm curious to hear what happened to the car in your signature.

my dad has an 06 charger r/t (which actually has more hp from the factory than the new r/t). and it's more of a joke between me and him about the whole "better car" thing anyway. he's jelous as s*** that i have xenons and he doesn't! it's all in good fun

Stock is 263 my friend

buuuuut....that's not to the wheels. im talking about 300whp, not 300bhp

and wth?!? i just wanted this thread to have other ppl come on and post stuff like "im fine with my 263" or "not stopping till i get 400", why does everyone gotta be bashin' on me? this sucks. come on, at least it's not a thread that starts with "mod" or "warranty"

I know in my stock ms3 I walked a charger srt8 on a freeway on ramp and at freeway speeds up to triple digits. It had a manufactures plate on it, really pissed them off too.
Depends on where you are some freeway on ramps can be very tricky and require a lot of skill for high speed merging, damn clover leafs.

I also think it would be kinda cool to hit the 300whp mark without doing any really major mods. Let us know what you end up going with.

this forum is mostly a learning process for me. in all actuality the only mods i'll be doing before factory warranty is up will be window tints, hopefully very soon cuz it's awfully bright in this car. but if i keep this car for the next couple years i'd like to put some more into it.

oh and as for whoever asked about my sig pic...a car made an unyielded left in front of me and it was an unavoidable impact, i wouldn't have even been able to get out of the way or stop in time if i'd had a ZO6

My opinion:
The fact that you want 300whp so you can merge and pass on freeways better seems...well dumb for lack of a better word. Just doesn't seem like a good reason to want 300hp. If I'm really stompn on it I'll be at 90mph before I'm even at the end of an on ramp, this car flies. And for merging just a little tickle of the throttle in 6th and you're at 100.

I think you're better off getting mods the put the power to the ground better; suspension, MM, shifter, things like that. And a new intake goes a very long way in this car.

But 300whp seems like a very reasonable goal with this car. But I think wanting 300hp to better 1/4 times or track times, or heck even just to romp on dewds with 60-100k$ cars is a better reason than just wanting more power to pass on freeways.

is 600 hp to far out???

in all seriousnes im not looking to make a set number its more of what mods can i do to keep it safe, stock turbo (for now), not have to tear open the block, and mods that are fun or better the car in some way.
