First wash of the year... holy brake dust spots!

Ive got a question. I just washed my MZ5 for the first time this year, at least a thourogh wash and dry. And of course, you get the nagging pin head sized yellow and orange break dust dots.

I was hoping someone had a good experience with a wash product that would take that stuff off without doing alot of damage to the paint?

I was using a little chunk of a mr.clean magic eraser, that did ok, but, its a lot of work to do the sides of the car.

Any thoughts would be great!

You have break dust spots on the whole side of the car? Got pics?

p21s total auto wash/s100 cycle wash should do it. May need some clay if its really stuck.

Sounds like what is referred to as "rail dust". It is easily found on white cars. Sounds like job for the clay bar. If you are lucky you might get it out with cleaner wax.

my white 5 has those little rusty orange spots all down the side, especially near the front wheel opening, and the rear bumper too.

i haven't tried claybar yet, but nothing else i've tried works. never getting a white car again.

Claybar should get the Rail dust off. As far as using the Mr Clean magic eraser, I have seen what it can do but I feel that is a bit too aggressive for todays thin clear coat paints.

Says on the box not to use them on car paint. Not sure what would happen though. I tired it on a small spot on a car that had fence stain overspray. Worked very well. Too bad though. I wasn't going to risk doing the whole car. Don't know what would happen to the clear.

Thanks for the input, i only did a couple of small dots. They are more or less after the front wheel wells, and are small, but, getting close, they are there. the mr clean eraser was a last resort as the was i was using really didnt do much. I had to really work at them (with the wool mit, or microfiber mit i was washing the car with).

I was considering the clay bar approach... but the weather here in Toronto has been fairly crappy so far this summer. That, and I understand to do the whole car takes a good couple hours.

Ill try the p21s total auto first, and see how that goes.
Cheers,

The magic eraser is a type of grit suspended in sponge, if it were rated in sandpaper grit ratings it would be like, say, maybe a 3000 grit paper? When I tried some on a car with a clear coat, it hazed up the clear coat a bit. Nothing that couldn't be taken out with a bit of polishing compound, but still just a little to aggressive for me. However, when I use those Mr clean erasers around the house, they never cease to amaze me in what they can do!
