Knock sensor and microtech

I hadn't realized that the Protege had a knock sensor, but discovered it in teh back of the block after pulling the cylinder head. Anyways, with the Microtech hooked up, I assume the knock sensor is not really doing anything any more. Is there a way to rig up a LED to the knock sensor so that if it detects knock, it will light up? I think this would be nice for tuning. Especially since I have a loud exhaust and can't really tell if I'm getting knock while I'm driving.

A J&S Safeguard would help you out.. it detects knocks that wouldn't be loud enough yet to be heard.

Rigging up the knock sensor with an indicator light has been done before. It isn't doing anything with the Microtech installed because the MT is controlling the timing.

I would be interested to see how the J&S would work with a MT. I think that Jimmysuite will be doing this soon and Im waiting to see if it is hard and how well it works.

Yeah, my CEL says I need a new knock sensor. I just got the car up on jack stands yesterday to locate this sensor, and I had to take her down and go get a friend...

Other threads say its on the back of the engine between the oil filter and oil level indicator, however, I did not see it...

Any help? If you still have the car apart, could you do me a HUGE favor and take a pic? I've seen the replacement part online, but who knows if its the actual picture or just a general one...

Any way to get to it from the top?

Thanks!

Sorry for the hi-jack!

The knock sensor is located on the passenger side of the valve cover. It is held in by one bolt on the side of the valve cover.

^I'll check there too. Other threads and OP for this thread say it's on the back of the block. I'm not sure how much good it would do on the valve cove though, I would think it's purpose is to detect a knock in the block. But I'm no engineer, so I'll check for it there too...

Thanks!

03.5msp you're so so so f_cking wrong. that's the cas (cam angle sensor).

the knock sensor is approximately above the oil filter location.

^ above it? Ok, then that makes sense why I didn't see it, and makes much more sense to detect a knock in the block, not way up on the valve cover...

Cool, I'll do an oil change at the same time, maybe it will be easier to get too with the oil filter removed...

Thanks!

^ thanks!

Wait, I thought that was the oil pressure sensor?

Maybe I'm still not see'ing it, please see attached...

Sorry for all of the trouble, I'm waiting on the title, thats why I haven't ordered the sensor yet and am trying to pin-point its location. If thats it, it shouldn't be difficult to change at all. After that, if I can get her to idle properly, I'll be set!

the knock sensor should have a wire going to a clip to around the oil dip stick. i think the one you've circled is the oil pressure, esp with the wire going downwards.

^ thats what I thought it was too, so is the knock sensor NOT in that picture? Or am I blind, sorry for being such a newb. New one will be here tomorrow...
