how to prevent dings and dent 101

after counting 11 dings and dents, i have decided that it is time to make a thread on how to prevent dings and dents that's almost impossible to avoid on dd.

1. Avoid parking at ghetto area of the town.

Feel free to share your secret.

I normally try to park next to the passenger side of a car, so if there is only one person coming back to it, they use the driver's door. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not.

Funny I see this thread now, I just today noticed the FIRST real ding in my car from another car's door. PISSED OFF

my favorite parking spot at work serves me two purposes.

i have a perfect view of it from my work.

its divided by the blue lines your not allowed to park on, and next to that is a handicapped space.

this way. i can park very close the blue lines and i dont have to worry about anyone hitting me on the drivers side, and since im so far over in the spot i dont have to worry about anyone hitting me on the passenger side.

This topic is a challenge for anyone. I avoided it with my previous vehicle by constructing an indestructable steel rail around the entire vehicle. Not exactly something you can do on a small compact car. Got me thinking now though :)

drop my woman off at the door to the store so she can go in while i watch my car

I always park on an end spot, either right next to a curb or at the end of a row where theres extra space on the other side.
If I park right next to the curb, I park like 2 inches or so away, so I'm really close.
If I park at the end of the row, I usually park right along the line.

either of these ways will let me open my door all the way without going over the line. This way I figure unless the other car is a complete moron, it's almost impossible to door ding me.

1 year and no dings yet!

I did have some cock biter either punch or kick the s*** out of my fender though. I guess pulling up in areas where people dig in the trash for bottles and cans in a perfectly clean MS3 is a recipe for a jealous attack. I got it all fixed and it looks perfect other then a bit of the fender and bumper seem not being factory flush.

As far as dings I have been smart and park very far away or park next to the hedges or curbs so there is only one car beside me. When I do this I angle the mirrors down then back in so I am 1 inch from the curb and the dick beside me has no way of hitting my car even with the door all the way open.

!. DOnt let your wife open the garage door on windy day.
2. DOnt park next to a 2 door car (especially those older heavy door cars)
3. Park as far as possible where you can use 2 slots.
4. Park next to a high value car.
5. If you need to park closer, pick a car that has clutters in the passenger side and rear seat of the car and park on the passenger side.
6. If you park in a slot thats questionable, Keep checking your car by hitting your panic button from time to time.
7. Remember the license plate of the next to you so if you get a dent, HUNT THAT CAR DOWN..lol

I used the art of parking my car far away from other cars.... But i found myself getting bigger dents and dings by a runaway shopping carts. My car is like magnet.

I park at end parking spots and far away from other cars when I go to the mall and supermarket. If I go somewhere and the parking lot looks like a nightmare Ill go elsewhere.

Nope, my paint is in great shape because it has a nice, thick, protective layer of dirt.

You gave me an idea. Maybe if i go offroad with my car, nobody will park beside me from the fear of getting dirt on their car. It also has benefit of extra layer of protective dirt! (rofl)

handicap spaces have tons of room on all sides of your car so...
get a handicap placard for a "sprained ankle" then never turn it in and exploit the whole handicap parking thing like the rest of the FAT LAZY PEOPLE out there...

/sorry if you are really handicapped
//i'm going to hell

1) KEEP YOUR DOOR MOULDINGS... shaving them because its "cleaner" is stupid... the protege's doors have a crease on them already, it isn't going to make much of a difference in looks whether the moulding is there or not... on the new mazdas they have flat doors which look bland without the door mouldings and they have thinner sheet metal
2) park between compact cars which left plenty of space for you
3) park as far away as possible but next to another car, preferably later model sedans and compacts
4) do not park next to coupes or SUVs
5) do not park alone in BFE, some asshole always think where you parked is also a perfect spot for him too
6) park on end spots next to an island
7) drive the bad car to the store ($500 beater FTW :D)

Avoid parallel street parking in san francisco. People park by braille. The number of cars that have marked up bumpers due to low speed rubbing is crazy. On the days I must drive in, I drive my beater pick up.

i gave up on fighting door dings...learn to live with them..Ive lost too much sleep and i was convinced a phantom was coming in the middle of the night...seriously ive taken every precaution but they magically appear
