stupid cobalt ss

Reading a Road & Track article today and they directly compared the chassis tuning of the Cobalt SS turbo to the MS3 and they found it to be superior. Now I have not driven either (ridden in an MS3 though) but I have to say that looks wise and fit and finish, the MS3 has the Cobalt beat. But overall, the new Cobalt SS turbo will give the MS3 a GREAT run for it's money especially in sedan form. The interior is quite livable and the motor is beyond proven. If the chassis is as special as they say, there will be some interesting comparos in the future.

You could take the speed 3, the new cobalt ss, the nissan 350z and an evo RS as a group, rotate 4 drivers amongst the cars and run 12 races. The winner would likely come down to the best driver(s) rather than the car they were in. When repeatable times are publicized, it is usually the best time a highly qualified driver can produce, not what the average guy on the street can pull off.

This just illustrates that buying solely on the basis of published stats is silly. All this being said, being a new owner of a speed 3, I choose mostly on comfort for me. I did not fit well at all in the cobalt contrary to what other tall drivers have posted regarding it's interior space.

You nailed it; as one guy on another forum put it, you simply can't treat cars like Pokemon cards and decide a winner based on the best numbers. Heck, even the numbers are variable; it's not unusual to see a .05 second spread in the 0-60 times obtained by CD, R&T, and AW- all from the same car.

By the same token, you can't just dismiss a car because it's "domestic" or a "cavalier" which it seems like a lot of people on these forums do. I don't think anyone is saying you should purchase a car based on magazine stats, whats being said is that the Cobalt SS turbo will be a worthy competitor to the MS3. Thats pretty much it.

I can't speak for the build quality of the chevy, however, being a former jeep owner (2006 wrangler rubicon) the caliber srt4 has suspect build quality being a chrysler product. Dodge only warranties SRT products for 3/36 while the rest of chrysler gets lifetime warranty. They won't even stand behind their own product?

Certainly the domestic brands have stepped up their build quality compared to the stuff they were putting out 10 years ago. Is it equal to the imports yet? not sure.

Agreed, you need to buy the car that makes YOU smile.

Performance wise, I agree.
Aside from numbers, the ms3 is 100x the car, imo.
I personally think buying a car for .1 second difference is a worthless decision anyways.
I will never be jealous of any cobalt owner, period. :D

SS's are so cheaply made, I agree with speed1585.
Cavliers ftl

Cheaply made? My cobalt ss never rattled and had suspension creeks like this ******* mazda. The turbo cobalt vs the MS3 Pros vs cons is going to be almost a literal a lateral movement. Your not getting some car thats leaps and bounds ahead of the turbo cobalt by picking the MS3 hate to burst any ones bubble.

WTF!? 5-speed??? I sort of like the cobalts (maybe cause i play need for speed pro street alot..) but 5-speed is a huge turn off! Imagine that on the highway...?

Just because it only has 5 speeds doesn't mean it's not suitable for highway use. 1st and 5th are probably the same ratio as 1st and 6th in the MS3, with the gears in the middle eating the difference in how their ratios are spread out.

I had a feeling the SS was going to be the new Neon SRT4 in the kind of owners it attracts. Nearly every SRT4 I've seen in my area was being driven by an @sshole. I just let them fly by and hope there's a cop ahead.

yeah so? The cobalt gets better gas milage then the MS3 and revs lower while in its tallest gear at highway speeds. I actually mis a 5 speed a little.

Sorry for this uproar. I saw SS badges on the driver's door and back on the new cavalier i mean cobalt. So i assumed it was new one and was corrected later on.

Thats cool mistakes happen. I thought I raced a cts-v in my cobalt and did good and later found out it was a north start v8 one with the v emblem package. we all make mistakes

i agree with the whole "to each his own" bit, and my 2 cents is nothing different.

for me the major parts of the MS which turned me on over it's "competitors" was the 4 doors and xenon headlights (gt). that beat out (for me) the cobalt ss, the calibur srt-4, the mini cooper s, and the r32 (which i really shouldn't count in the first place cuz it's over $30k)

if i had a choice in order of which i would rather have it would be:
1. MS3 gt (which i already ordered)
2. calibur srt-4
3. mini cooper s
4. cobalt ss

Why all the Turbocharged SS hate? Honestly. The new Cobalier will be a fine vehicle. If you're going to talk "fit and finish" and "build quality" when comparing it to the MS3 I guess we'll all have to ignore the smoking turbo thread, the engine mount threads, the dash rattle threads, the suspension creak threads, etc etc etc...

It's putting up numbers as good or better than the MS3. It's a bit cheaper than the MS3, and you can bet the way Chevy is taking hits in the markets they can be talked down a bit. It's pretty well equipped. It's the right vehicle for some people, and it's a pretty good performing ride. It's better in some areas, worse in others. What more can you ask for?

all you people arguin on here...quit cho bitchin!...jesus...like several people have stated its a drivers race which is faster, as for which one looks better, i thought about waitin on the ms3 for the SS to come out, i really like the way it looks a lot more sportier, BUT the interior was the determining factor cuz IMHO its ugly and doesnt compare to the MS3's interior, and goin on personal choice again i wanted somethin fast and was really niceo n the inside cuz this is a DD, and the ms3 won me over...but its aaalllll a personal opinion...you can sit here all day comparin the two "well this has this and that has that and..." but who gives a flyin ****!? you got a car you enjoy every single day? thats the real winner.

Why did you buy an MS3 if you prefer your cobalt?
Regardless to what you say, my opinion remains, not trying to pick fights, just how I feel.
MS3 ftw.
