wash/wax kits

As far as more economical options, Amazon.com has a Meguiar's NXT Wash & Wax Kit that includes:

NXT Tech Wax 2.0 (Liquid)
NXT Car Wash
Insane Shine Tire Dressing
Utltimate Quick Detail
Microfiber Towel
Foam Sponge Applicator

All for $28.45 shipped to your door.

Having personally used the NXT 2.0 wax (paste) and the UQD just yesterday, as well as the car wash, the stuff is absolutely excellent. And a great bargain too. I have not used the tire dressing though. Otherwise, I would echo the sentiments on the Zaino.

Thanks Wolverine Man. It was the best buy for my situation. I also added the Absorber Chamois and the Meguiar's G1016 Smooth Surface Clay Kit. All this for 60 bucks ($30, if I'd gone for the Amazon credit card ... I don't like their interest rates tho) and free shipping to boot. The clay kit (towel, mist, clay) came with an additional sample of Carnuba wax.

Speaking of Clay kits, my car is about a month old, should I even worry about claying it yet? Just did the first NXT wax on it last week. And how frequent are you all waxing the cars? Assuming you wash every week.

i wash once a week.

the minimum you should wax is at least once a month if your using nxt...

youll need to clay by the end of the year probably. it really should only need to be done twice a year

Just stopped using NXT and applied the ICE today. Did the liquid clay bar to remove old wax since I did a real clay bar 1 month ago so the paint was plenty clean. I wanted a nice wax free surface to let the ICE cure on.

I will see how it fairs but so far it is way better in that it shines plastic as well. It made for a much easier job to not have to go and use the Mothers Back To Black all over the trims.

I did use the solid formula since I called Turtle Wax and asked if there was a difference and they said the liquid is not as durable and wont last as many washes. They said the paste will last 60 washes but I figure that is BS and I would be happy if it lasted 15.

I dont really wash my car often since I wipe it daily with the detailer and it never gets dirty until it rains. The NXT seemed to not be as shiny after just a few weeks and clear coat scratches became more visible also. All in all it is still a nice product. I just am sold on the ICE being able to shine plastics.

I saw the NXT 2.0 but have been wanting to try that ICE so I will see ow it goes. Anyone notice a difference in the 2.0 vs the old NXT? Does it really last longer?

durability is about the same. nxt2 leaves a slicker finish, but that goes away after one wash.

both bead water nicely, and i found nxt2 to remove much easier. it also smells better, as i cant stand that sweet candy scent that nxt1 has.

for those considering claying their cars, our speed 3's come from overseas so they spend time sitting on ships and railway cars here during transport. There is ample time for brake dust, airborn pollutants and railcar metal wheel filings to settle onto the paint. Most dealers just was and glaze quickly before delivery. There is already a ton of gunk settled onto the paint before we accept delivery. I clayed mine about a week after receiving it, you wouldn't believe the amount of crud that came up off my paint.

man, i just clayed my car with claymagic and got around to doing half the car with nxt 2.0 2 days ago. first off, the smell is incredible. lol. it looks great and it's a breeze to take off. i'm going to wash the car again tomorrow night and finish waxing the rest of it. i'll let you all know how nxt 2.0 lasts. the smell and ease of removal alone is worth the 15.99. plus you get a nice foam applicator w/ it. :)

I really hope the ICE is as good or better because the fact it shines plastic is just awesome.

I will let you guys know how it holds up in the next month or so and you do the same with the NXT 2.0.

yeah, ice is pretty interesting stuff. the only reason that i haven't tried it is due to turtle wax's track record. inferior products FTL. i might have to give it a shot next time i wax. i'm diggin the nxt 2.0 so far though. i just mothers reflections on my last car (flint mica scion tC) and it was incredible. it made the color have so much depth. i figured i'd try something new this time around since my car is silver and all.

whitey: if you want, you should try mothers reflections next, it does wonders for dark colored cars for sure.

So I got the package. Darn if it isn't going to rain all weekend. (sad2)

im getting my order of products sometime this week, or beginning of next.

250 dollars worth of stuff should keep me happy for a month or two =D

one of the products i picked up was pinnacles signature series II paste. its a carnuba, and from what ive read and think pictures ive seen is good for light colors, and cars with alot of metallic flake.

ill post up pictures and reviews when i get it. i know the durability will be about 1 month or so... but im just using it as a topper anyway on top of my sealant. i wanted a higher end carnuba, but couldnt yet justify the price. the wax is 8oz and is 35 dollars. so its not the priciest of waxes... but i figured it was worth a shot.

As someone else posted, http://www.autopia.org/ and read/search. I'm sure autogeek is equally as good. Read up first and learn the basics.

You guys that are still polishing your cars by hand should really try a random orbital like the Porter Cable. A straight cut buffer is faster but takes experience to use without damaging your paint since it builds a lot more heat. The random is much safer.

Proper surface prep is everything

im on autopia, my username is the same. im also on detailingbliss.com

autogeek to me is really more of an online store then a go to forum. the information on autogeek, is pretty much the same youd find on autopia, but i consider autopia my home detailing forum

Cilajet

Anyone heard of Cilajet or Jetseal 109? Cilajet is way too expensive and only avail thru dealerships...

I just bought my 1st 2008 Mazda, 3 Grand touring hatchback, metropoliton grey.
I got the cilajet coating.
The reviews I read have been mixed.
I just drove it on a trip and the bugs on the front bumper just wiped off with a wet paper towel. From what I learned I should be able to go weeks between washing, and to wash I just need to wet the car and wipe it with clean towels inside and out, no need for soap.

Well as time goes on I guess we will see how things go will let you know.

I use Meguiars NXT 2.0 and imo it is the best wax for the amount of effort/time/performance. I've used pretty much every wax u can think of from Meg's to Zaino to Mothers and everything in between and i can honestly say that the shine durability, and most importantly ease of application and removal have put NXT at the top of my list.

cobra microfibers are pretty good, although some people say that they lose their plushness and paint safety after a couple of washes. definelty do some reading on the detailing forums and whatnot before making your purchase.

some other websites to check out is detailersdomain.com, pakshak.com, and chemicalguys.com

+1 on pakshak.com towels. Have purchased from there twice and have been very happy. The key to keeping micro fiber towels happy is to wash them with liquid detergent (no powder) and line/air dry them (no dryer).
