Clinking and Raddle noise from Engine... Scared!

I have only noticed this a few times BUT

When I stop sometimes and am in neutral sitting at a light I will hear a *Klink Klink raddle raddle and it's kinda like a vibrating noise and it's from under the hood BUT when I engage the clutch and put in gear while still holding the clutch it stops no matter what. Anyone ever heard of this or experienced this sound? I'm kinda scared...

if its the sound i get it happens rarely but it does it only in idle. if i stop and let my car idle with the turbo timer for about 10-20 secs. i sometimes get a tinking jingly noise randomly. im assuming its nothing much since my car has 20,000 and nothings wrong. ive heard it since day 1 to be honest. i thought something was wrong but its such an impossible noise to recreate on demand.

Do you have a MS CAI? I know your sig has it as a future mod, but I was wondering if you haven't updated. If you have, I might have your fix...

The metal splash shield over the filter has a tendency to rattle on the fender liner. Could be an issue of a readjustment. I just recently put my back to a CAI from a SRI and I haven't noticed anything yet.

I had this problem before I changed to SRI. Mine mostly happened when sitting at idle after driving, although it could have happened while driving and me not heard it (radio up loud). My noise typical only happened when in neutral, and went away when pushing in the clutch.

The rattling is from the tranny, not engine. It's normal for this car. When you push in the clutch it goes away because the engine disconnects from the tranny. I'm not sure exactly what it is but some people believe it's the throw-out bearing or input bearing. It could also be the gear assembly inside the tranny. For me its loudest when the car is hot after spirited driving. Don't worry about it, you're fine.

yeah I've noticed this noise as well and it goes away when you engage the clutch. it seems normal.

hmmm ive never noticed this on my 07 and ive got 21k+ miles. To me the only time you should hear any rattle like that on ANY vehicle is on a ducati dry clutch. It sound like a throwout bearing issue and i would get to the dealer asap

dont bother bringing it to the dealer. the throw out bearing in these cars are LOUD!!! the rx-8 is even worse. youd swear there was no lubrication in the damn thing. i guess unless the thing is unbearably loud, its normal. i took mine to the dealer and he said the some bearings are louder than others in our cars but overall they are just plain loud. if it works fine and like i said isnt roaring, dont sweat it.

thanks, i will be retightening my cai shielding when i clean the filter. I dont hear any noise though.

I actually prefer SRI better. Seems to build boost a little faster. Turbo and BPV noise are louder that way also. I am actually planning on buying the Cobb SRI here shortly and selling the MS

sweet, thanks, im definitely leaning towards the sri, especially because of the flooding i'll have here in a few months (i cant help but me paranoid.) (notcool)

This is the only noise about my freshly bought ms3 that concerns me. Yesterday (just one day after I took delivery of it) I noticed it after I made my commute to work, and stoped to get some office supplies. After buying some things and getting back into the car, about 5 mins later, I picked up the rattling noise, and noticed it goes away when I press the clutch. It is more notorious when the car is warmed up, since when I left work at the end of the day the noise wasn't there, but after driving it around town for a while and parking the car, it was there again.

So, this can be considered normal/safe in this car? Or should I go to my dealer and have the noise checked out?

Mine does it as well and it is the throw out bearing. My 2000 Tacoma did it, my friends 2001 still does it, neighbors RX-8 does it, and a friends Evo does it.

My friend with the Evo made fun of me when I asked if his car does this and he said his didnt because it was a "real" car. So I took a ride with him and his was loud as s*** but he didnt know what it was. I told him to push the clutch in and it stopped, lol. He did this a dozen more times because he was now pissed I was right, lol. The odd part is his does it the worst when his AC is on but it is much louder then our MS3.

I am told it is normal but the next oil change I will let the dealer listen to it. I am sure I will leave it alone but if they offer to grease it up or something then I will let them. My Tacoma squeaked loud as hell so they greased it and it was fine afterward.

Good to know that it's a normal noise! It has stayed constant in it's appearance and volume, so I might mention it when I take it in for service, but that would be pretty much it, though I thought I heard some other sort of wail coming from the clutch after a spirited drive, but it was probably just some weird harmonic off the tyres/stereo.

Thanks for the quick reply!!! (cool)

Mine does it too, Started to worry. Does it worse when warmed up. Mostly in neutral with the clutch out.

All sounds like clutch chatter to me. Most manual cars do it and will do it more after racing or heavy driving. Nothing to really worry about, a ton of cars do this. When I still had my ms3 it would do it after racing, scared me2 at first till I found out it was the clutch.
