What have you done to your P5 today?

Having had both, the '03's are better but they still mostly suck. I get bottles instead of cups, and I put them between the seat and the handbrake.

+1 for '02 cupholder sucking. I think they look better but serve little purpose in holding that enormous, extra large drink from Taco Bell in place.

Ha, yeah those numbers are a little off. I dyno'd again back in late October and put down 183 whp and 185 wtq. This is funny because between then and the first dyno I had added a full Corksport exhaust (in exchange for my catted MAM/Magnaflow system), Exedy Stage 1 clutch, Fidanza 7/5 lb flywheel, SplitSecond AFC V2 (untuned but the supermap is still better than stock), ATP wastegate actuator (gives 7 psi) and MPiNick Stage 1 turbo upgrade (GT28RS compressor wheel shoved into the stock GT2554R turbo). Either the first dyno was way off or I was actually boosting higher (maybe 8-9 psi?) due to the stock wastegate actuator (which could have been going).

Since October however I have tuned the AFC for 10 psi, added a 626 IM with thermal spacer and I'm now retuning for 10 psi. We might be having a somewhat local (VA-wide) dyno day in May that I might be able to make it to but I'd like to think that I'd be over 200 whp when I finish my tune.

This year should be good though because I'll be getting yet another IM (505zoom's), a new higher-flowing fuel rail, a new FMIC setup and intake, and maybe getting an exhaust manifold (from Pirana). I also might pick up some of Brach's pulleys when everything gets worked out. One thing's for sure, I'm not going any higher than 10 psi until I get a built block sometime in the distant future.

dang, i'm not gonna lie... i'm a little jealous. Props for doing everything the right way and at least attempting not to zoom zoom boom. This is pretty much the route that I'd like to go by next summer. although i have a lot to learn by then haha. keep up the good work!

noticed someone scuffed my rear driver side bumper and tried to wipe it off parked at school. Now I have matching scuff marks on both corners of my bumper. Lucky me its not that easy to see :(

I have the ones with out the flap and any large drinks get mashed by my knuckles when I'm shifting. Found that out the hard way with one of those extra large slurpees... went into third gear and got blueberry blast all over the center console. It's even worse with the short shifter. So any large drinks are now 'crotched'.

LOL that sucks mang....that's why I dont get the super large cups, usually med or large fits ok, but if you got a passenger your screwed, those cups will squeek like a frickin rat

im glad to see alot of you have issues with the cupholders, and its not just me

Yeah took me about a year and a half before I finally decided on the turbo route. Initially I was going to save up for a HiBoost kit but went the MSP way due to ease and safety. I've really tried to be safe all around but I'd be lying if I said I never encountered any problems. Car runs funny sometimes not to mention all the random CELs I get from time to time that will randomly clear themselves. Definitely no looking back now and I'm happy where she is - just looking to complete the package eventually. I'll admit I didn't know anything at first either but I stuck around, lurked in the MSP and F/S sections and slowly built my knowledge and parts store. All in all, it took about 7-8 months to get everything together and installed. Been one hell of a trip...

Spent $700 on a front brake job----rt caliper had siezed so needed 2 sets of calipers....Ian/ Michael did set me up with ceramic pads though!

Header and intake installed!

It sounds great, much better throttle response, substantially more grunt.
But then, I knew all that, since I had these parts on my LX!

...now let's see how long it takes my wife to notice! :D

new to this....

im new to this so this might be a little choppy or whatever but anyways... my p5 engine just went out and i need a new one. ive been told it would be a 2 to 3 thousand dollar job and i almost threw up! anyone know of a cheaper route? i guess im looking for a new engine. anyone welling one? and does anyone know how hard it would be to swap a msp engine into my p5? i wonder. how much mods would have to be done (wiring is the biggest thing that frightens me! the omtor should fit cuz of the same basic body type up front right??)

The mazdaspeed motor is the exact same engine as the Protege/Protege5, with a turbo hanging from the front of it.

Try calling OnlineMazdaParts or MazMart. They may be able to get engines cheaper. Or eBay. or Craigslist.

I just started a thread on the exact same topic (kinda). P5 --> MSP conversion. Check it out if you want to see how things go with my msp5 conversion.

I've also heard that protegegarage.com sells engines for $1200ish?

$1000 for a used full longblock motor from protegegarage.com

Or, you can spend $2000 and get a brand new short block, or, $4000 for a fully forged motor from speedciruit

have you been sleeping behind the wheel again? lol

haha, yeah I tend to do that. I've got a 45 minute commute to work so I dont really need to stomp on the gas much. But today I had three coworkers in the car going to lunch and I floored it and they were like "ohhh whiplash bwhahaha"...kinda embarrasing  But to answer yer quetion, yes I have been sleeping behind the wheel :)

i actually talked to someone with auto matching software for a new engine and he told me that the mazdaspeed motor fits right in to the p5 but you need the mazdaspeed transmission and the mazdaspeed cpu. thats all he said you need!! thats definately good news!!

the 2.0L in the speed is the same as the 2.0L in the P5 (boom07)
