May need help installing the WGA

i need to get my copy back too...best turbo book out but depending on your level of automotive knowledge certain things wont make sense. If you want to pick it up yourself its called "Maximum Boost" By Corky Bell (Corky Bell owns and operates a company called BEGI which make some of the best intercooler cores out)

+1 great book! Luke's got a copy that I borrowed to read...

I hate to threadjack, but don't want to start a new thread, or search (lazy!):

Does anyone have a "Must-Read" book list? I want to read the Corky Bell turbo one, and there are a mess of Solo2 books I want to read.

Dude, do you think we read? That book is good because it's got pretty pictures.

The turbo goes "whooooosh"!

BEGI (Bell Engineering) is known for more than just intercoolers. They're one of the big hitters for Miata turbo kits, along with Flyin Miata.

ohh i know they produce many turbo kits they used to make one for the protege too but as a whole in the tuning market their intercoolers are where its at...that and they make some pretty sick high end turbo setups.

And Michael it all depends on what you want to know, how much your willing to learn, and how much time and money you have. I go back myself occasionally and learn something new all the time from the two books i have just due to things i pick up either here at work or from other people. Unfortunatly at the begining there is so much that went over my head i didnt know where to even look. Then the other conundrum is that if you dont have something to test what you learned it can get pretty frustration which is really the biggest reason i bought my honda

I've got a couple good chassis setup books around here somewhere. I had them before I moved, I'm sure I've got them downstairs in a box or something lol. It won't all make sense right off the bat, but once you start messing with this stuff, it falls in line very well

Suck, Squish, Bang, Blow by Mike Kojima.

This was a series of article in Sport Compact Car a few years ago. Best, easiest to understand information about turbo/superchargers.

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/search/index.html?SearchText=suck, squish, bang, blow

Doesn't look like they have all the articles up but the best series out there for information.

yeah i enjoyed that series...thats when SCC was actually worth a damn with kojima and the other tech dude (his name escapes me atm) Now they have gone the way of every other ricey magazine they even managed to make the USCC boring

Dave Coleman was the editor then and who actually knew his stuff.

thats it its been so long...i loved when he would answer a stupid question in technobabble you could tell in his writing he was frustrated with the level of stupidity of some of his readers

Dave still writes, just for Edmund's now I believe.

Kojima is supposed to be coming out with a new project in the next year, web based.

I think basically what they are saying is that his GTI is A LOT different than a stock MSP, the MSP's engine is a lot more fragile, and your friend just doesn't know how fragile they are, especially without supporting mods.

That's all I needed to hear. I'll get a pic up here in a sec. I've been busy this weekend and haven't had time to get on here everynight. I went to Harrah's yesterday and with 50 bucks won up to 300 bucks at the blackjack tables. However, I didn't walk away and lost it all back. My friend Jonathan won 500 and lost that. We need to learn.

yeah i will be around most of the day today so let me see what that looks like

Obviously (as the pic notes) this is where I want the boost gauge to go. So an A-pillar 3 pod would not work here. I am looking for a single one that can swivel.

This is the "BPV" that is being talked about. Not that it's needed but I made sure we knew at which point I took the pic. (Front of car arrow). Yes, get ready to yell at me for capping it off completely. We took it off and took rubber caps and capped where it connected on both sides.

if u did that then be prepared to mess something up!!! get some hard pipes as soon as possible and put a blow off valve on that thing right now !! or just put all that stuff right back on until u have the money to do so!!! and just to let u know i have owned my msp for less than a year without any knowledge of turbo's what so ever and i have already worked on pretty much every thing but the turbo itself!! so how long u have owned ur car isnt the facter here!! its just that u have no knowledge on whats goin on under the hood and neither does ur friend!! so if i were u the only thing u should do is install that boost guage and stay away from upping ur boost or messing with any more intake hoses till the knowledge is there!!

p.s: thats not a radiator that is ur side mount intercooler!!

yeah definatly put that back on ASAP that is unless you want to buy a new turbo and depending on how long you have driven without that on there and at what boost the damage may have already been done

Calm the mess down guys, it was only off for one pass down his short road. Chill. I don't think I said I took it off COMPLETELY. The only thing that was changed (and still is) is we replaced some vac lines with silicone ones and we installed the new WGA. That's it. Everything else is back the way it was. Well, almost, I did remove the heat shield over the exhaust manifolds but I noticed not many people have theirs still on. Does it really make a difference?

no u dont really need the heat shield! i dont run mine!! just make sure not to touch the manifold!!

Wait... DON'T touch the manifold? It doesn't get hot does it? It's because I didn't check the blinker fluid isn't it? Damn, I knew I should've checked the fluid levels.
