Best replacement tire brand

I don't see why there are some people here who choose to equip their MS3's with lower-performance tires. Though tires are consumable items, they're what hold the car to the pavement. With all that power, you should at least get a tire that's equal in performance to the stock ones. If your suspension is modded, you will have defeated the purpose of your upgraded swaybars or springs/coilovers since your tires can no longer hold on to the road. I wouldn't downgrade from the stock Bridgestones for the sake of saving money. And on that note, I wouldn't spend $300/tire for a $24k car, either.

As for the OP's question: If you're going for a summer tire, I'd stick with Bridgestones. The stock rubbers are no slouch. I plan on trying the RE050 Pole Positions or the RE-01R's when it's time for new tires. I've also had good experience with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's and Toyo T1-R (both are excellent in the rain).

For reference, the UTQG rating is different across manufacturers. That means, a UTQG rating of 200 from Bridgestone (for example), would not be the same as a rating of 200 from Dunlop. You can only compare the numbered treadwear ratings within a given manufacturer's tire lineup.

Tire Rack's objective tests are the best place to go. You get hard numbers instead of person X claiming tire Y is the best (which is subjective).

Agree with Dozed on the treadwear ratings...they're not trustworthy at all.

For what it's worth, I've owned two sets of Kumho Ecsta SPT tires and been pretty happy. They're very sticky, pretty cheap, and wear surprisingly well. Their wet traction is also much better than the Azenis.

just because he stock bridgestones have a 140 tread rating doesnt mean they are good. these tires suck if you ask me. i have had nitto's and BFG in the past with 300 tread ratings and they were way better than these POS bridgestones.

My RE050A tires have 15000 miles and still look like they'll last me about 5-8000 more. It all depends on the driver.

I never based my opinion of the stock Bridgestone tires on the tread rating. However, if you do want to base performance on numbers, all the tires I've used with 300 UTQG had extremely soft sidewalls and would lose their adhesion characteristics much faster at high temperatures.

ok see, thats where our opinion go in other directions. i am a drag racer, the softer the sidewall the better IMO. bfg's and nitto's are great for hard accleration, and do well on corners too, but not as well as a tire with a stiffer sidewall. the 555's will grip as good or better than the bridgestones, and last twice as long.

don't forget: softer sidewalls = more comfortable ride! :D

all 4 bridgestones are gone at 14,600 and i am looking at tires. I did not like the OEMs at all. I could not tell when they wanted to break free in demanding turns. I will be seeking a lower wider softer tire , be damned the mileage just my opinion

I see. I'm definitely not into drag racing, though I do appreciate a sticky tire as much as anyone else.

Cheers.
