Tokico Illumina kit (ILK248). kit/springs any good?

:
Mazda Protege 5
I am looking to get into the some Tokico Illumina for my 02 Protege 5.

While looking around I happened upon the Illumina kit (ILK248). I looked in the spring buying guide and did a search but I didn't come up with any info on the springs from Tokico. Are they just remarked and sold as something else normally?

Any good word about this kit? I am going to be racing autocross with the car and so I would like a good performing combo, but I do not want to be dropping the car a ton of height.

Let me know anything about this ILK248 kit from Tokico.

i have the tokico springs onmy car, albeit with hp's,not the illuminas. i like 'em. spring rates are about what the tein springs are, but the rear is a little lower than with the tein springs.

Bump on this... I'd like to know about the Illuminas, too. I've already ordered, so it might be too late to find out, but I seriously would like to know.

njaremka, about what is the drop on those for a P5? Are you saying they are lower in the rear then the S-tech or H-tech Tein?

the tokico springs "might" (i'm not 100% sure) drop the pro5 more in the rear, due to the weight difference. i think if i had a pro5, i would get illumina's and tein's, since the teins are specifically designed for the pro5.

yeah i talked to ken when i was getting my suspension.

that tokico kit is designed for the sedan. it will sag the p5 in the back to much.

Ok, well I just ordered the shocks/struts... I held off on the kit w/springs. I am kind of torn on what to do for springs though.

-On one hand I would like to run in HS class for autocross and dropping car would bump me out of that class.

-As I sit right now (poor research and quick to buy) due to my tires I am racing in FSP class. Next season I will probably run street tires so I would be able to run in STS and able to run lowered.

-I don't really want to drop the car too much because because of the nightmare it was with my focus trying to get over bumps.

-I really dont want to spend $200+ on Springs.

Would paring these Illumina's with the Racing Beat (msp) springs be the wrong idea? There are a few sets of Racing Beat springs on the boards for sale right now, and I think I am probably going to go that route (Illumina's and Racing Beat springs).

I think my main driving force now is probably getting a deal on springs.

So does anyone actually have side view shots of a p5 running these Tokico springs. Every place I look for springs seem to be lumping sedan and wagon into the same drop category. With this information about more weight, more drop in rear I am having a rough time figuring out what to follow, manufactures drop measurements or the resellers.

So if there are any side shots of the Tokico springs on a P5 and if anyone has the specs for these spings. They are not on the spring buying guide.

you dont want the tokico springs man, itll sag the rear...

if you dont want much of a drop go for the racing beat springs... or just spend the money for springs. its better to spend the money now, and do it right, than spend money on springs that wont fit the car properly.

I'm also researching springs, and I think this is the best advice so far.

It's better to get things right then to just waste time, money, and patience messing with cheap deals.

subbing for info. I'm looking to replace my struts and springs too.

Doesn't the illumina rear strut have a lower spring perch than the HP and therefore not suited to the P5?

the only rear strut that has a different perch is the stock mazdaspeed rear's

look at H&R's , they don't low too much about 1.3" and they very good for DD and spirited driving.

I might take em as well.

yes.. the illuminas are a little bit lower, but I have them on my P-5 and have no problems. I really like them!
For the record, I had the HP's before the illumminas, and I notice no difference in height using espiler springs.

*thanks srd555 for the pics*

how much did the espiler springs lowered your car when you had HP's on ??

are they too stiff or ?? some info ?

i currently have hp's on myh 03pro5 with an eibach pro kit. it's pretty sexy.

want to move up to illumina's this summer. the pro kit drop is already 1.8" in the rear - would i run into any rubbing issues running 17x7 - 205/40

sorry for the delayed response. (crazy)

Just like njaremka said, there is no difference in ride height when changing from hp's to illuminas, that I noticed.
The Espilers lowered my car about 1.4 inches with hp's and same with the illuminas. If there is a difference, then I didnt notice. Before I had MSP springs, and the Espilers have a much better ride imo. Not too stiff at all.
