Any opinions about these kits? Does anyone have these on their ride, any feedback would be great!!!

I'd go with that one. ^

You don't really need all that expensive hardware on a street car. The bigger rotors will give you more heat capacity, to resist overheating. Then add some braided lines and DOT4 to keep your brake fluid stable, and cap it off with some EBC pads... utterly cost-effective.

I'm going for the braided lines, and I'm trying to see if there's a cheap set of slotted rotors in a wider size that I can use my stock calipers with.

Thanks, but is there any way to stay away from stock parts, new caliers, preferably painted blue or red? I need brakes badly, im about to start working on my engine to go fast but need to be able stop quickly when needed. Is there a way to make your own custom brake kit, like buy custom made rotors, find calipers that suit your needs, etc? Kind of similar to the link above where its showing how to swap out stock for something else.

Seriously, the 11-inchers Is six showed are the best ones you can easily do. I'm converting an 11-inch Honda kit to fit under my stock calipers. I can't wait!

If you want strong calipers but don't want to fork over money for an expensive new kit, you could try to adapt a Brembo kit from a stock Lancer Evo. A friend did it on his car... same lug-count and spacing if you've got the five-lug hubs. You'll need to machine an adapter to attach the caliper to your brackets. I don't know if you'll need to machine the brake disc, but you might need to machine it to fit the hub.

What I don't know is how this will affect your brake balance or how to adjust your brake proportioning to match this kit. If a brake kit doesn't jive with your ABS, the car will actually take longer to stop than stock.

there was a bracket someone made that extends the stock caliper so you can accept 11 inch rotors. they made a kit for about 500 bucks, but i wonder if you can just buy the bracket and then you can buy rotors somewhere else

Wasnt that a 12 or 13 inch kit?^ I always thought that was to much for that kind of upgrade.
Protege garage sells the kit I improvised for $800.

Just a warning if you decide to do something custom. It can very quickly become un street able. You cant depend on an adjustable prop valve on a street car because there is a switchover point built in to every valve and they are not adjustable.

How it works is under light braking the rear brakes dont see any pressure at all. The factory prop valve is set to release pressure to the rears at a certain master cylinder pressure.

If the aftermarket valve isn't set to match the frictional differential between the front and rear you might have premature lockup at the front or rear and not be able to tune it out.

The only option would be to try different valves till you find one that's suitable.

That's why I'm going for a simple 11-inch upgrade on the stock calipers. I only want the additional heat capacity, and I don't want to f*** up my brake balance.

you can do that niky? put bigger rotors on the stock calipers? what rotors are you going to use that are 11 inches, the mazdaspeed?

I'm adapting a 'cheap' kit meant for the FD Civic. It'll fit, physically. We just had brackets fabricated to match the calipers to the rotors. You'll still have the same pad area, since it's stock pads and the same braking force (hopefully), since it's stock calipers, but theoretically the 11-inchers will be less prone to fade than the 10-inchers, and should run cooler, overall.

I'll post up pics when we're done this weekend.

I'm not looking for stronger brakes. I've got sticky enough tires that I can stop quickly. I'm just looking for consistent lap-to-lap braking. Hopefully, this'll be enough. Will find out next month on track. If it's not enough, I'll have to change pad compounds and experiment some more.

Do the 4 piston RX-7 upgrade. It's cheap as hell, and you get 4 piston calipers!

Personally I've got a "secret" 13" BBK in the works, but those are mucho $$$ and you said you wanted cheap, which a BBK is not.

what year rx 7 do the calipers have to be?

FC bodystyle 4 piston. I wrote that already.

I should have clarified on the rotors, they're 2 piece and you need to have custom hats made they won't just bolt right on. I think they're 295mm by 25mm rotors. Then the hats you just have custom made for the proper rotor placement.

k let us know

Damnit... bracket adapter won't fit. Have to machine it... again... sigh... maybe Monday.

RE: RX7 calipers... Maxx Mazda... how does it feel on the road? Do you need a proportioning valve with it?

I don't have them. I'm working on a 13" Wilwood kit.

Ah. ok. 13"? That's insane! That's about what... 15 pounds heavier than stock? But since you're turbo, you can take it...
