Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

I have an 07. Does this mean I cant get a dp? Is there a recall or tsb for the 07 turbo yet?

No recall since its a hit or miss thing; not ALL 2007 are affected.
Its not a point of getting a DP, its a point that your car (turbo) may (or may not) be already leaking oil and the stock DP/2nd cat just hide it by burning the smoke completely until it gets worst.

If you put a DP on your car and it starts smoking, then your turbo is bad. But you won't find out till you change your DP or your turbo degrades substantially.

I'm putting in my catless dp in spring. will let you guys know if my car starts to smoke, then i'll let you know my build date. I hope it wont smoke or else I'll trade it in for evo x and call it a night.

That's the PIA you change the DP and it smokes like a sob dealer won't warranty it since you did it. Put the stock on and smoke goes away unless the thing still smokes which is unlikely since there is 2 cats. Maybe they knew this to begin with?

I doubt they knew it... They just put two cats in there for ultra low emissions.

I just wish the dealers where a little more on the customer's side. I don't think Mazda Corp is against fixing the affected cars, I have a feeling its the dealerships getting in the way.

I thought the dealership would want to fix as many cars under warrantee just to get paid...? (huh)

I plan on getting a full turbo back exhaust 3 inch with only a mini high flo cat in the spring time. I have a buddy with an 06-07 speed6 with the same set up only dual and he has no problems from the time of installation till now and thats about 5000 miles later. Ill keep everyone updated as soon as I get everything installed but I hope mine is one of the miss and not the hits. I have a pretty good dealer that loves hooked up speeds. I mean they only voided his warrenty when he put on a FMIC so I know I can at least get a good look through of the car if anything goes wrong even with aftermarket.

Hi Everyone! I have a habit of disappearing, I just thought I would let everyone know that Mazda IS going to Warranty my Turbo. I took it to the dealer yesterday.

The problem I'm having is convincing my dealer to pull the turbo and look at it. I've told them about the smoke and told them that it has been a problem and that other people have experienced it and I'm not making it up. They only want to hook it up to a computer to tell me everything looks o.k. (blah)
Along with the smoking were there any other signs the turbo was going bad? My car really doesn't feel the way it should and I checked my oil the other day and I run Mobil 1 Synthetic and it's only got about 2500 miles on it and it looks really bad. Not chocolate milky or anything but charchole like sort of. Guess it's just my luck to have the pain in the rear dealer and not have another choice really close.

Yeh my dealer told me they had some sort of "test". I asked specifically what it was and they kind of walked around the answer just telling me I had to leave the car over night, that the engine had to be cold for the test. I called later the next morning to see if they did it yet and what their findings were. I was told they just pulled the car in and were going to start the test lol. I was like what you just pulled the car in I thought it had to be cold, their like oh well yeh it will be cold. I left it alone at that point, I truely dont think they have a test for it, what do they do check your dipstick to see if your low on oil??

Long story short they called me back and said Mazda wasnt going to let them do anything which I described in my earlier post. I basically made a deal to accept their Lemon offer alternative, a cash settlement, IF they warranty my cars turbo and dont give me any s*** about warrantying any other parts of my car if needed. They agreed to do that, IF I return the car to its stock form. So basically I had to take off my bov and cai and they would say deal. So thats it, my cars stock now and its at the dealer getting the turbo, and gaskets and any other parts needed replaced.

Anyone else have any luck getting theirs done??

Damn, thats a hassle having to remove all the upgraded parts...

Did your turbo stop smoking once you put the car back to stock?

All I had was an intake and a bov so it wasnt too much of a hassle... Just makes the car lame though. I dont know if its still smoking, its been sitting in my garage this winter, I just take it out to run it to the dealer to get fixed lol.

Ok here's my only prob. I have a gauge type boost comtroller. So I messed with the lines leading to the wastegate. Like an idot I didn't get new ones I just cut into the stock ones. Also I cut off the muffler. So I'm thinkin that they're gonna say f!ck you and send me and my car smoking all they way back home

I have an 07 speed3 with a new intercooler bpv cai and tbe and my turbo was ******. one dealer i took it to said there was no problem with it but i don't think they even pulled the turbo to look at. they blamed the smoke on no cats. my ass. my uncle just so happens to work at the dealer i bought it from and they are gettin me a new turbo right now. Kick ass! i only had 4000 miles on the car

I really hate this thread!!!! Failing turbos at such an early stage...
Though I consider myself lucky!! +9K miles with a DP and no smoke (knock on wood)... I wish there was a way to narrow down the failing units...production number/dates, etc...

Every time I mod the car I'm worried that the dreaded smoke will suddenly appear out of nowhere... I'm getting deeper and deeper in the point of no return with mods to where it would really be a PITA to go back to stock.

This really blows!! I feel for those with smoking cars...

My next mod is the CBE and for some reason I am paranoid of doing it...the CBE is en-route and I am scared to install it when the time comes...thinking I will get the dreaded smoke...though the other side of me says, hey, I already have the DP...so far so good...

I don't know what to think anymore...

I'd like to believe if it does happen, that I would just bite the bullet and upgrade the turbo and manifold and say screw it with warranty on the engine.

I only have an intake and I got white smoke every once in awhile(when it had less than 5k on it) now it has about 10,600. I have not driven it since October, though - in the garage.

It doesn't always smoke though... you have to show it to the dealer when it's happening in most cases...

Mine only smokes on occasion... maybe once a week for 15 mins or so...
