Since I purchased my car, I knew I wanted 17" wheels for TRACK events ONLY. Although I inherited my track only set from my RX8, these were 18 and wanted to lose some weight...
I just got me a set of SSR Competition (my alltime favorite wheel) 17 x 8.5 +42 with Hankook Z211 slicks 235x40x17. They look GREAT and MEAN...
Bare in mind, this is ONLY for track events (AX and Track days) so smooth surfaces will be the main place I'll use them.
I don't intend to use them in the street. This past weekend I intstalled them and went for a drive. I had a full tank of gas, and 100 lbs of weight in the back. A couple of friends also sat in the back seats and the suspension barely moved.
These DO fit and although I might have to roll the rear fenders, due to the amount of clearance I have between the tire and the fender, I believe even with the suspension fully compressed, I will be OK.
(FRONT) The distance from the front tire edge to the fender is about 3-3.25" and from the center of the tire to the fender is ~2.5-2.75"
(REAR) The distance from the rear tire edge to the fender is about 2.5-2.75" and from the center of the tire to the fender is ~2.-2.25"
I went for a short drive, since these are slick tires, and the car FELT AWESOME!! waaaay more grip, I found myself getting to redline more often but with GRIP! and the best part is that this combo is about 36lbs!! I turned very sharp and I accelerated and braked very hard and no rubbing whatsoever.
They stick out about .25" from the fender's edge loking at it from the top.
The amount of rubber "stock" (I have RX8 wheels with 225x45x18) is 7.75" wide and with the new setup is about 8.80"
Inner clearance is NOT an issue as I even have more than before, about 4mm more with this setup.
Of course pics are worth a thousand words... Here they are... ANY CONSTRUCTIVE feedback is WELCOME.
