I really need someones help! Possible blown Turbo seal On 2008 MS3

Hey guys, I let my friend drive my car today. Well he punched it in first gear and did not even changed at redline and was holding it about 3-4 second. I was outside watching him. So right when he came back and stop the car i saw blue smoke coming out. Now when the car idles and i gas it lots of blue smoke comes out. It does not do it when i'm driving. I think the turbo seal is gone or my piston ring. The car drives normal. No cel or anything. I have an Mazdaspeed cai. I cant take it to dealer because i cut out my pre cat and put a straight pipe. What can i do guys. I cant weld it, because they will find out and void my warranty. PLEASE if anyone could help me out it would mean alot to me. How can i fix my pre cat? Do i have to buy a new downpipe or what? I ****** up letting him drive it. My car is 08 with 2,000 miles. I owe 20k on it and i dont want the warranty to get void. I live in san jose. If anyone has a after market downpipe and could let me borrow their stock one for 1-2 days it be great.

Man....I really feel for ya bud. That totally sucks. I'm not sure what you can do, I don't have what you need for one thing, and I also live in Canada so I wouldn't be much help to ya even if I did. Just giving my condolences. Hope things work out for the best and you can get everything fixed.(sad1)

what happens when you just let it idle? does it only smoke when you rev it while in neutral?

First off, go to your friends house and kick him in the balls....hard and twice.

Then take it to the dealer as a welded in straight pipe has NOTHING to do with your Turbo Seals.

Before you go, I would print out a bunch of threads from here about others with the same issue.

Yes. Only in N. But when i gas it a little it will smoke. When driving nothing at all. I just read couple of thread about bad turbo seal. Could it be the seal or the piston ring. I mean the car still pulls hard, 17 psi with cai. I have no downpipe or anything. I just removed the last cat that has no o2 sensors on it.

this is exactly why i always keep all my stock parts in tact....
Are you 100% positive it wasnt shooting out smoke before??
he should have just hit the rev limiter which shouldnt have done any damage...

I cant hit him. It was myh fault letting him drive. He ******* hurt my car. OMG why cant u shift to 2nd? U are right man. The test pipe has nothing to do with it. But is the dealer goign to think the same way or bye bye warranty. My car runs like champ but i hate that smoke. It only happens at idler when is in N.

yes sir. No smoke at all. Nothing man. As soon as he came back and stoped next to me blue smoke came out. It does not happen at all when i'm driving. The car runs perfect, Pull hard as before, But the smoke at idles just kills me.

So you let him drive your car - big deal, doesnt make it your FAUT, jut means that now you know not to let people drive your car. Its HIS fault that hes a freaking DUMBSHIT for holding his foot on the pedal like hes Jeff Gordon or something. If it costs you ANYTHING, make sure he knows that its coming from HIS POCKET for BREAKING your car.

And then run him over after its done.

Thanks for the help. But people make mistakes and his been their when i needed him. But my question is how can i solve this problem with out my warranty getting the voided?

the only sure 100% way I can think of is for you to get a stock downpipe.
You may have to try to buy one off the forum, unless you can find someone close to you that lets you borrow theirs, if they have an aftermarket downpipe.
The chances of finding one isnt very high, but its worth a shot

just go to the dealership and let them deal with it. if they pull some warranty bull just because of your testpipe bring up the laws against it. they'll try to take advantage of you because they prolly think you kno nothing about the laws. do some research and lay it down! haha

The dealer doesn't have to do jack sh*t! when there are after market parts on the car. If they're cool, they'll work with it. What most would do is insist it be put back to stock before working on it.

to the OP:

The revving your friend did really shouldn't have caused a problem unless it was a mis-shift at high speeds which doesn't seem to be the case here. It could just be co-incidence that you noticed the smoke then. Exhaust mods do cause smoking as the turbo has to work harder. Whether it's seals or not I'm not sure but that's what most seem to think. A dealer service manager told me that he's also seen more smoking with the use of synthetic oil.

maybe it was smoking before and you didn't notice it til he drove and now you notice cause you know about it.

It doesnt sound like you are in a rush. its running ok and you have say 34,000 miles left on your warranty right? If you can wait about two months, I will be dissecting my original exhaust and installing corksport! at that point i be willing to help you out. What color smoke did you say?

Blue and white. It only happens after when i run the car hard and let it idle for 4-5 min and than smokes comes out. 2,000 miles on the car. I have read lots of thrads about turbo seals being bad.

Relax. Your friend didnt do s***. Theres guys who have CX-7 autos whove never broke the speed limit with smoking turbos. If you have to idle the thing for 4-5 minutes.... you dont have a problem. You have a normal 2.3 disi turbo with a cat missing.

When I cut my cat out.... same thing. It would happen bunchs and then it wouldnt happen for like days. When my downpipe went on it started happening EVERY time after 30-60 seconds.... still does. Smokes like fresh s*** in the cold...

Youve only had the car for 2000 miles....just installed a race pipe, and it takes heavy driving to induce smoking after 4-5 minutes of idle. This is normal. Start saving up for a turbo upgrade for when you get your DP..... problem solved.

I hope so man. Because it was not doing this before and i had no cat. It happend right after he drove it.

Ok,
1) Isn't there a rev limiter?
2) Call a dealer and explain what mods you did to your car and see it it really affects your warranty...call a dozen until you get the right answer!
3)Take said car to said dealer and tell him nothing...just explain about the smoke you started to notice.
4)We all know the driver has a problem and so do you for being so needy to want HIS approval on your $20,000 investment...but that's another story lol. Try steps 1,2, and 3...
Mike
