i firgit did you go stage 2 w/bars

I would be very interested in a how-to with pictures. I have done a full suspension swap on my previous car (coilovers and struts), but it is always nice to have a reference in case of some issues.

I have had my Cobb springs sitting in my apartment for over a week. I really want to put them on, but I need to wait till it is warmer and I take my car to the dealer to look at my rear struts (might be leaking).

Good luck!

haha...don't worry, guys...i will do a full photo shoot of the process! ;) i actually ordered a full cobb stage 2 suspension, but s-unit shipped them separately, so the sways won't be here until monday. i'll probably do that install next weekend...i'll make sure i do a how-to on that too...=d

here's a teaser:

cobble cobble, baby! (alright)

ok, after a bunch of n00bin around, i finally got the springs installed with the help of blacksheepms3! it was freakin cold as hell, and i'm really glad he was there to help me through the most annoying parts of the install. i'll provide details and insights on how to get it done with the least amount of agonizing in a How-To, but for now, just know that it can be a PAIN if you don't have the right tools and tricks for the job...=/

anyways...the springs are still settling, so i don't really have a good after-springs image, but here's a peek at what it looked like before:

ya, i know the glare sucks and whatnot, but the point is to show what kind of wheel gap it started with...=d i will make sure to post the after image in a day or two when i have a chance to take a pic in the daylight and things have settled just a bit more.

here's some first impressions:

the ride quality seems very similar to stock springs. you stick to the ground better, and feel the bumps slightly more (especially the rolling speedbump-like ones), but overall comfort seems very close to stock, imo. as far as improved performance, i haven't had the chance to go crazy and go down twisties, since i was driving back at night with a carload of tools and whatnot...(dunno) what i did notice was that when i'm on the highway, the undulating bumps are definitely not as "floaty". this makes me VERY happy, because that was the main reason why i wanted the springs to begin with! as far as wheelspin and wheelhop, i will have to wait until i have a chance to really do some heavy stomps to figure that one out. i took it very easy tonight because i had just installed the springs and i wanted to watch for any weirdnesses and give them a chance to break in.

i will write a more detailed set of impressions when i post my How-To on the process. don't worry, i took a lot of pics and they seem to have come out very well, so i will be spending a decent amount of time putting together a good write-up so that we can have a more user-friendly FAQ for spring installs in the How-To section! (alright)

i'm still waiting on my sway bars to be delivered, but when i do install those, i'll make sure to do a write-up on those as well...=d

Awesome.
I plan on getting some springs sometime as well.
On the other forum the cobb guys weight their ms3 and it was only like 3080 lbs, did these aftermarket springs seem any lighter than the stockers? or could you not notice a difference? I'm just trying to figure everything out and see how they lightened it up so much.

Also, cant wait to see the pics.. these are 16" fd rims, correct? Ill probly be shooting for 17s but ima little worried about the fender gap.
Let me know, and thank you!

actually, looks like i DO have a decent set of before and after pictures.

the first was taken the day after i got my rx-7 FD wheels, and the second was taken about 3 hrs after i had gotten the cobb springs installed. keep in mind, that the rear springs are taking their merry old time settling (less weight on them, i guess?), so i expect them to settle more. in fact, when i FIRST took the car off the jacks after installing the rear springs, it actually rode HIGHER than when i had my stockers on! (eek2) after about 20 min, though, they settled down to close to what you see in the pic here.

ya, i know the lighting is pretty crappy, but if you look closely, both the front and back have been dropped noticeably. hopefully, it will settle a bit more to round things out! :D

np, man...i've learned so much from the community here, so i really wanted to give back with a How-To that helps people out. those are indeed rx-7 FD wheels, and i LOVE them! the ride quality is a dream compared to stock, and despite what some people may think, the downgrade in handling is not nearly as bad as you might think it is. i like compromises, so i plan to be running RE-01R's with these come summer! (drive)

there does seem to be a bit of difference in weight, but the stock springs do not weigh a whole lot to begin with. i took some pictures of the stock spring next to the cobb springs, and the stock springs are definitely longer by about 1" or so (more coils), so it makes sense that they weight a bit more. considering the total weight of the springs, though, the cobb guys' weight drop definitely came mostly from somewhere else.

here's the stock weights accord to my tanita bathroom scale:

front springs = 6.6lb
rear springs = 3.5lb

it's (the scale) obviously not really designed to weigh stuff THAT light, but my arm scale tells me that it can't be far off from the truth.

Handling w just springs

Report please. Keenly interested in a comparo in twisties. stock, just springs and stage 2 and will you drive triple digits.Does it sit nice at 150? I wanted stage 2 but i like bars or bars+even more spring than cobb. It sounds like a great package though. Let your readers know!

sorry, i'll have the How-To and full report up in the next few days...been really busy, so i haven't had a chance to take care of this...=/

The How-To is now posted in the How-To section. Detailed impressions are in progress and after pics will come this weekend, because the springs are still settling.
